Chapter 299
‘It looks like Wendy is really targeting me, Rosalie thought.
“But…” Norah still seemed uneasy.
“It’s fine. I’ve got it under control. Hugo won’t get anything from me.” Rosalie lightly patted Norah’s shoulder, offering reassurance.
The two of them stayed outside for a while before heading back in.
just before entering, Norah hesitated for a moment, then sent a quick text to her husband before following Rosalie back into the room.
By the time they returned, the conversation had picked up. Hugo was quite good at lifting the mood, and in just a short time, he had energized the
whole room.
When Rosalie and Norah came back, Hugo casually walked over and greeted them, “Come on, you two are the last ones. We’re playing a dice game. Losers have to drink.”
As he said this, Hugo reached out to put his arm around Rosalie’s shoulder, but she subtly avoided it.
“Mrs. Byers, Ms. Talley, please sit down. Let’s hear Mr. Palmer explain the rules of the game,” Wendy said enthusiastically, offering them both seats. Rosalie’s seat was conveniently next to Hugo.
Norah, concerned about Rosalie, tried to swap seats with her so that Rosalie would sit next to another female professor, but Rosalie stopped her.
Norah wanted to protect her, but Rosalie didn’t want Norah to risk it. After all, Wendy’s target was Rosalie.
Hugo clearly had ulterior motives, and if he had too much to drink, there was no telling what he might do. Rosalie wasn’t going to let Norah get involved in this.
Rosalie sat in the seat assigned by Wendy, and Wendy looked satisfied.
Huge said, “The rules are simple. The person with the smallest number has to drink with the person sitting on their right. No one can refuse. If you refuse, you’re disrespecting our birthday girl, Wendy.”
The rule sounded fair, but Rosalie already knew that Hugo wasn’t up to anything good. From the moment she sat down, she understood what was going on.
She guessed the dice they were going to use for the game were also specially prepared for her.
Rosalie subtly curved her lips, a cold light flashing in her eyes.
At that moment, the professors attending the birthday party, both men and women, were seated in alternating positions, with an even number of people
When Hugo sat next to Rosalie, he intentionally sat very close to her, expecting that she would tolerate it, but instead, she dropped the barely visible smile from her face and spoke directly, “Mr. Palmer, I’m sensitive to heat. Can you not sit so close to me?”
Rosalie’s blunt words immediately made Hugo feel a moment of embarrassment.
The others weren’t fools either. From Hugo’s actions after he arrived, it was obvious he was interested in Rosalie.
Some of them took an indifferent attitude, knowing that Hugo was from the Hasmond Palmer family and should not be offended. Others thought that Hugo probably wanted to pursue Rosalie and meant no harm, so they naturally accepted his arrangement with Wendy.
They even naively thought that if a small couple could be formed, it would be a good thing.
But what had been understood without saying was one thing, and having the intention directly pointed out by the person involved was another. Hugo’s expression shifted slightly, his embarrassment now mixed with some dissatisfaction.
