After Rebirth, Her Light Pierces the Darkness Ch 2

After Rebirth, Her Light Pierces the Darkness Ch 2

Chapter 2 The Arrest

He was dressed in a tailored black suit and had chiseled features and a refined appearance. A cold and imposing aura emanated from him.

Bobby held a cigarette between his fingers; his eyes were indecipherable through the smoke.

In this current moment, Miah’s figure on the monitor was reflected in his eyes.

He could clearly see a slim woman knocking down several burly men with precise, lethal moves.

Such skill couldn’t be obtained without at least a few years of practice.

“Your intel—are you sure it’s her?”

“We are absolutely sure, Mr. Gallagher! We too weren’t aware that Mrs. Gallagher is so…” The bodyguards contemplated for a moment before they tremblingly continued, “…wild.”

Bobby’s icy expression gradually melted as he looked at Miah.

She seemed to be more interesting than before.

Miah placed a foot on one of the men’s throats, seemingly trying to crush his neck.

“S-Spare me…”

A few of the men began pleading.

Jason, who had been standing to the side, was also dumbfounded.

Didn’t Holly say that Miah was an uncultured country bumpkin who couldn’t even speak properly?

Why did she have such incredible skill?

Just then, the door of the private suite burst opened.

Reporters came barging in.

Cameras started flashing, capturing images of Miah’s face as she turned towards them.

“Ms. Sampson, I heard that you’ve been homeless and have been wandering aimlessly these recent years. You and Dr. Powell…”

One of the reporters said before he even entered the door, as though he were reciting a script.

As such, he was dumbfounded when he saw the group of burly men laying on the floor.

“What’s going on?

“This isn’t anything like what Holly Chambers claimed it would be.” he thought.

Miah still hadn’t moved her foot.

Her hair was dishevelled and she was smirking with her arms crossed in front of her chest.

“Go on, you were saying something about me and Dr. Powell?

“Do you have some sort of clairvoyant ability? Or perhaps x-ray vision?

“You were already so sure that I was messing around before you even entered the door.

“Is it because your thoughts are always lewd, or is it because someone directed you to say so?”

The reporter retreated backwards and didn’t dare say anything more, wishing he could disappear.

Meanwhile, the other reporters swarmed forward.

Seeing that there were so many people, Jason intentionally shouted, “Be careful everyone, this patient is out of control! Help, I need backup!”

Another group of people, consisting of police officers and the Sampson family, entered after the reporters.

Knowing that she would be photographed by reporters today, Eliza intentionally wore a tight white dress, did her hair up in a bun, and put on light makeup.

She rushed towards Miah, deliberately squeezing out fake tears for the cameras. “Oh Miah, my long-lost older sister! Thank goodness we’ve found you, welcome home!”

Holly also shed crocodile tears as she walked up to Miah.

“Miah… it’s really you! We’ve been searching painfully for you for so many years. But what’s going on? Why did you beat up the people we sent to protect you? Don’t you want to come home?”

Holly may appear to be concerned on the surface, but in actual fact, she was a backstabber.

Sure enough, as soon as Holly finished speaking, Miah saw the disdainful look in the eyes of her father and grandmother who were in the back.

Miah smiled coldly. “How could I not want to go home, Aunt Chambers? But I think the question is, do you and my stepsister really want me to?”

“What are you saying, Miah!” Holly exclaimed, slightly surprised.

Not only did Miah not shed any tears of gratitude or show any signs of timidness when surrounded by strangers, but she even provoked her directly?

Holly was afraid that things would become even more complicated if the situation were to drag on, so she quickly hinted to the police to arrest Miah.

“Officers, although this is only the first day since we found Miah and while we love her dearly, the law is the law. Miah’s disruptive behaviour is due to a lack of proper upbringing, so I hope that you won’t discipline her too severely…” Holly sobbed dramatically as she finished speaking.

Miah let out a cold chuckle seeing Holly’s behaviour.

“You really know how to put on an act, Holly.”

“The police haven’t even said they were going to arrest me, but you’re already acting as though they did?

“It’s still too soon to say who’ll be arrested.”

Miah took out a syringe and an alcohol swab from a drawer as she spoke.

And before everyone’s eyes, she inserted the syringe into her own arm.

Holly’s expression changed drastically. “Hey, just what are you doing!”

Miah was completely composed as she withdrew her own blood like a professional.

Handing the syringe to the police, she said, “Dear officers, if my guess is correct, there should be traces of a drug in my blood that is similar to a psychedelic with hypnotic effects.

“This kind of drug is banned from private trade by the country.

“A country bumpkin like me naturally wouldn’t have such a thing. Please investigate the source of this drug carefully, and find out who supplied it and who administered it to me!”

The police immediately handed her blood to a hospital staff for analysis.

A brief anxious wait later, the results were out.

“Ms. Miah Sampson is right, her blood does indeed contain an illegal hypnotic drug!

“Our investigation reveals that at 12:29 p.m. earlier today, a test sample of this drug went missing from the hospital’s pharmacy. It appears that someone in the hospital has deliberately administered it to her!”

All eyes turned to Jason.

He began panicking.

Administering the drug was also part of Holly’s plan.

Never would he have expected that Miah would actually be able to feel that she had been drugged and to the extent of being able to discern what type it was!

If this matter were to be pursued further, forget about sabotaging Miah, not only would he be fired for unauthorised drug administration, he would also be sent to prison!

“This has nothing to do with me, officers! The staff at the pharmacy must have made a mistake!” Having said that, Jason deliberately dragged out the nurse who was in charge of Miah’s medication.

“Talk! What the heck is going on! Why did you add such a drug to Miah’s IV solution?” he questioned sternly.

“I-I…”

Miah’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the nurse who was being used as a scapegoat.

Naomi Chambers.

She was Holly’s niece and Eliza’s cousin.

In Miah’s previous life, she had also done quite a number of cruel things towards Miah in order to please Holly and Eliza.

She was probably involved in the plan too. After all, she was the nurse who was in charge of Miah’s care.

“What are you blubbering about? Hurry up and admit you’re guilty and hand in your resignation!” Jason was vehemently shifting the blame onto Naomi in order to protect himself.

Watching their dog-eat-dog behaviour, Miah felt both contempt and satisfaction in her heart.

“Unauthorised administration of drugs is no small matter, officers, it’s a matter of life or death. Don’t tell me someone is able to get away with such a crime simply by resigning?” Miah chimed in.

“Of course not!”

With that, several policemen were about to handcuff Naomi right in front of Holly.

Holly instantly panicked at the sight of this.

“Naomi is still a young child, officers. All she did was take the wrong medication, is there really a need to arrest her?”
