Chapter 12
That was exactly what Joseph was thinking, but he didn’t say it out loud. He picked up his phone from his desk to cal! the head of the police department, John Oliver. Joseph and John have been friends for a long time, and he knew if anyone could get security footage, it would be Chief Oliver.
Within 2 days, Chief Oliver was able to obtain the footage for the main central bank. He spoke to one of the security officers on sight and collected the footage from him.
“I haven’t looked at the footage, so I’m not sure what’s on it. But he said it’s everything from the last week,” John said, handing Joseph the disk.
“I owe you,” Joseph said to John before he left his office.
Upon reviewing the footage, Joseph found exactly what he needed and then some. He put the video clips on a USB so he could take them to Anna.
“Aiden! Get the car!” Joseph ordered.
They went to the bank to find Anna standing outside. She was on the phone, saying something Joseph couldn’t hear. She had a strong composure though and at one point she even laughed. She was practically glowing in the illuminating light of the sun.
She tucked a long strand of hair behind her ear and continued her conversation. Joseph was amazed at the level of confidence she was portraying. Not at all like someone who was being framed for leaking the companies‘ secrets.
He kept wondering why she appeared to be so different now that they were no longer married.
“I can smeli her from here,” James said in a low tone. “It’s so intoxicating.”
Joseph could tell that James was growing impatient; he’s been wanting to be around Anna for some time now but every time they got close, Anna would reject them. It pained his wolf, not that Joseph would ever admit that out loud. It was infuriating that she wouldn’t even give him the time of day. It was embarrassing and it bruised his ego.
Anna soon hung up the phone and shoved it into her pocket as she began walking back inside.
“Sir, you should catch her before she goes in,” Aiden suggested quickly.
Joseph was hesitant for a moment as he stared down at the USB in his hands. He knew as soon as he made himself known to her; she would run in the other direction.
“Let’s go to her!” James pleaded. “I need to be closer.”
Joseph had to calm his wolf down before he lost control. Joseph also wanted to get closer to her, but he couldn’t. He knew if he did, it would only backfire and she wouldn’t receive the help she needed.
He thought of telling her that it was an early birthday present; he knew tomorrow was her birthday. They didn’t usually celebrate her birthday when they were married because she didn’t like making a big fuss out of it. She didn’t have any family or friends to celebrate her birthday with anyways.
After a few moments, he sighed and handed the USB to Aiden; he looked down at it, confused.
“Sir?” He asked, blinking a few times.
“Give it to her,” Joseph muttered.
“But sir…” Aiden tried to protest.
“Don’t argue with me,” Joseph snapped. “Just do what I ask.”
“What are you doing?!” James hissed, fury in his tone.
Joseph ignored his wolf.
Aiden didn’t argue anymore; he nodded and slid out of the car. He shut the door quickly before Anna had a chance to look in the car and spot Joseph. He inched closer to the door so he could at least get a glimpse of their conversation.
“Hello mam,” Aiden said, bowing slightly to her in a polite manner.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, confused.
They’ve always been friendly with one another, but as far as Joseph knew, they haven’t communicated since she left the pack.
“I’ve come across something by accident. When I reviewed it, I knew it was something you should probably see,” he said as he showed her the USB.
“What is it?” She asked, frowning as she grabbed the USB from him.
“It’s the security footage of the bank,” Aiden said, meeting her large eyes.
She stared at him for a long while; loseph couldn’t tell what was running through her mind.
“How did you come across this?” She asked, her frown deepening as she stared up at him with suspicion running across her face.
Aiden shrugged casually.
“It was just an accident,” he told her. “I found the USB and I wanted to see what it was. It looks important. It could possibly be a reason behind information getting leaked.”
She stared at him for a moment longer. She looked surprised at what he was saying but then she smiled up at him, admiration clear in her eyes.
“Why would you help me?” She asked, staring down at the USB.
Aiden gave her a sheepish smile as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
“You are missed at the pack,” Aiden confessed. “No one can cook like you can, Anna.”
Anna couldn’t help but chuckle at that; Joseph rolled his eyes. He was unaware that Anna not only cooked for him but cooked for the workers as well.
Aiden returned to the car moments later as Anna strolled inside with the USB. As Aiden sat back down, he stared over at Joseph with a frown.
“Why don’t you want her to know that it was you that helped her?” Aiden asked.
“Because it doesn’t matter,” Joseph responded as he gestured for the driver to take them home.
