Chapter 7
“I said no, Joseph,” she said again more firmly. “I’d rather dance with a dog.”
She turned away and walked back to her table. Joseph stared after her; he couldn’t help but smile and chuckle a little. His heart was beating quickly in his chest, and it was an unfamiliar feeling for him.
“I can’t believe Joseph, a workaholic, is laughing and having a good time,” Aiden, his assistant, whispered to another worker behind him.
Joseph ignored them. He brushed the thought of Anna out of his mind and went to mingle with some of the other guests. However, it seemed like regardless of where Anna was, he still knew of her whereabouts. James could sense her easily; the sweet scent of her aroma was hard to mistake.
As the party started coming to an end, the guests started leaving one by one. Prince David went to fetch their coats at the front of the ballroom, leaving Anna alone at the table once again.
Joseph approached her, trying to keep a strong composure. He had questions he needed to be answered or it was going to drive him crazy.
“Can we talk?” He asked, coming up from behind her.
She turned quickly and her already large eyes, widened.
“There’s nothing to say,” she said quickly; she looked like she was about to run away so he stepped in front of her to block her movements.
“I just want to know why you suddenly wanted a divorce,” he said, staring down at her with seriousness across his expression.
“Seriously?” She asked, blinking confusingly at him. “Did you not see the picture I showed you?”
He thought of the picture that Anna showed him at the hospital, of him and Tina. He knew what the picture looked like, but it wasn’t the case. Tina had thrown up on her clothing and ruined them. She couldn’t sleep without him holding her because she was too frightened. He waited for her to fall asleep before leaving the room.
sleep her
Tina was like a little sister to him, and he would do anything to keep her protected and healthy. He owed her everything and he wasn’t going to give her up for anybody. He wanted to explain that to Anna, but she started speaking again.
“Plus, Tina’s so–called medical condition is a hoax. I proved that already in the hospital room and you still took her side over your own lunas. How did you think that made me feel?”
“I’m sorry,” he said to her softly. “But Tina had a good explanation…” he tried to say.
“No, she didn’t,” she cut him off; her tone was expressionless and dry. “I did some digging around with the help of my good friend, Prince David.”
She took out her phone and scrolled on it for a moment. She brought up a picture of a document and showed it to him.
“Tina’s medical condition isn’t as bad as she’s making it seem. I saw some recent medical tests and they’ve all come back clear. I don’t know what she’s been doing with my recent supply of blood, but it’s not going in her body.”
Joseph stared at the documents, dumbfounded. Has Tina been lying to him the entire time?
“There has to be a good explanation,” Joseph found himself saying.
The documents were clear though, but Tina wasn’t the type to lie to him like this.
She rolled her eyes, pulling her phone away.
“I’m sorry,” Joseph said again before she walked away. “On Tina’s behalf, I am sorry. But that still doesn’t justify a divorce.”
She turned away from him as Prince David started to approach them, staring between them suspiciously.
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” she muttered as she walked away.

“What happened?” Rita asked as we got toward the exit. “I saw you talking with Joseph.”
“He was being an asshole,” David muttered. “He won’t leave her alone.”

Yeah, he hasn’t been able to take his eyes off her,” Rita told him, glancing in Joseph’s direction, who was still staring at me.
I just tried to ignore him as I have been for most of the night.
“It’s funny,” I said as we walked outside. “In the 3 years we’ve been married, he never once watched me leave. I was always the one to watch him leave.” I paused to gather my thoughts. “But never again. I will never chase anyone back again.”
