Chapter 0011

BAILEE

I narrowed my eyes at him

He didn’t get to accuse me of cheating, fake DNA test results, and then sit there and act concerned for her. As far as I was concerned he could stay as far away from her as possible. He was mental and unhinged

You have got to be kidding me right now,I hissed as I moved to stand in front of Lorna, glaring at her. Get out of my way

When Lotha leaned back against the counter instead of moving, I reached behind her, pulled the cabinet open, and let the wood softly hit the back of her head as I grabbed Brinley some Tylenol and Motrin

Ugh!She screeched. How dare you! That was assault!”

Lorna’s highpitched voice seemed just as unsettling to Brinley

She lifted her little head and looked at the woman with fear before leaning over me to reach for Caleb

Daddy!Brinley called. I want daddy

Caleb moved to grab her from my arms, but Lorna closed the distance between them, pushing his hands down

He is not your daddy!Lorna narrowed her eyes at Brinley, and I ground my teeth together

You have no right to talk to her! Especially to lie to her! I shouted, moving Brinley to my other side to be further away from my lying, cheating exhusband

Caleb looked away, his jaw tight and his body tense as Brinley continued to sob for him, struggling to get out of my arms, but

I refused to let her go. I would rather be the bad guy for holding her than for her to have to experience the pain and heartbreak of Caleb pushing her away

He wasn’t a good man, but she didn’t know that and loved him unconditionally. She didn’t deserve this

Give us a couple of days,I begged Caleb, but he just shook his head

I am moving back in tonight. You can stay until the thirty days are up, but you’ll be in the guest room.He gestured behind him toward the hallway as I let out a breath of defeat and disappointment

We couldn’t stay

stay here

If he had been willing to lie under oath, I knew being under the same roof as him was just asking for trouble. He would probably hurt himself and then call the police so he could file a police report against me and convince everyone that he had

been telling the truth in court today

Turning to pour Brinley her medicine, I debated calling my mother, but what good would that do

My mother wouldn’t dipp everything to come stay with me in a hotel to help me with Brinley while I figured out what to do

Plus, it wasn’t like I could stay with them. The only thing left in my name was my business. It would crumble if I weren’t here to run it, and I would be left with no way to support my daughter

After what you did today?I scoffed, holding the medicine cup up to Brinley as she calmed to silent tears and, thankfully, drank it without a fight for once. You think I would trust you to be under the same roof as me and MY daughter

Then leave He said, and Lorna smirked victoriously at me

I need to bathe Brinley to get her fever down first,I said. Then I’ll gladly get as far away from you two as I can.”

We were going to leave, but Brinley was my top priority. I couldn’t walk all the way to a hotel with her burning up like this. The cool night air would make her even sicker, and without a car seat, I couldn’t order a ride

That’s fine.” Caleb agreed, and I walked out of the kitchen as Brinley quietly cried into my neck, wanting the comfort of the daddy who had just abandoned her

Caleb,Lorna whined. I can’t believe you ordered me shrimp. I can’t have fish right now. It could affect the baby!”
