My heart softened, so I told him everything about my past.
It wasn’t some big secret, after all… Just a failed relationship.
I was completely enamored in those five years, but thankfully, I had woken up. After finding out about Bruno and Raine, all I felt was disgust and the need to escape.
Half a year had passed, and I was now living a peaceful life. I didn’t care what happened to them anymore.
After hearing this, Liam was furious.
“Damn them! What scumbags! They have no sense of right and wrong! That Russell guy was just after your family’s money! Why did you hand the company over so easily? If my brother were in your shoes, he’d make sure Bruno went down in flames!”
His anger made me laugh, so I told him my true thoughts. “I didn’t have the energy for revenge, and I didn’t want to waste my time on people who didn’t matter.”
Liam saw how calm I was and finally let his anger go, but he was still furious for my sake.
“Want me to have.my brother pull out his investment? If their funding dries up, their company won’t be able to recover for a long time. They’ll never be as powerful as they are now.”
I paused, then sighed. “I don’t like mixing business and personal stuff. That will simply make things worse. If that project really is good for Carter Inc., I don’t want you to sabotage it.”
Liam paused, then buried his head in my arms, ignoring the still–wet paint on my shirt. He mumbled, “How am I supposed to
let someone as nice as you go?”
I reached out to pat his head. “Then don’t.”
Liam looked up in surprise. “You… Jeez…”
He didn’t finish his sentence; he just looked at me with spirited eyes and made a request: “The world championship is being held in our country this time. Will you come watch me?”
Go back home?
It had only been half a year, but it felt like forever.
Maybe it would be good to visit. I didn’t have to be afraid of seeing those two… They were nothing, after all.
So, I nodded.
Liam flashed me a wide grin.
What I didn’t know was, elsewhere, he was already messaging his older brother.
