Chapter 8
I stared at Derek for a long time and said slowly, “Didn’t you already apply for the marriage license?”
Derek nodded unnaturally. “Yes…”
He didn’t seem to react.
chuckled. “So we’re going to get married soon, right?”
He looked at me in a daze.
“Are you going back on your word?” I blinked.
He suddenly reacted. His eyes lit up, and he rushed over to hug me.
“Emma, is this what I think it is? Are you really willing to marry me?”
I patted him on the back gently.
“I promised you a long time ago, didn’t I?”
He blurted, “I–I mean for real this time.”
I chuckled and joked. “I didn’t say we were going to fake it.“,
He finally grinned, and tears came out of his eyes as he laughed.
I gently wiped his tears away with my hands.
He laughed and cried at the same time. “I thought that after something like this happened, you wouldn’t dare to accept my feelings anymore…..”
“Why not?”

I smiled peacefully.
“I’m not the one in the wrong, nor is it ‘love‘. It’s just the person who’s in the wrong.”
I had a clear conscience regarding my relationship with Ryan, so of course, I was able to move forward.
Ryan cried even harder. “You’re right… I, I just didn’t expect that there would really be such a day…”
My heart ached, and I felt sorry for him.
I shook his hand.
“I won’t make promises easily, but don’t worry. Once I’ve made up my mind, I won’t turn back no matter what.
“Emma, I won’t let you regret your decision today!”
He smiled at me with a determined look in his eyes.
For the next week, he stayed in the ward with me, doing everything
himself, for fear that I would injure my hands next.
That day, he had just finished feeding me medicine when he heard a noise coming from outside.
“Let me in! I want to see Emma!
“I’m her husband, why are you stopping me?”
It was Ryan’s voice.
Derek and I looked at each other.
His expression instantly turned cold. “I’ll get rid of him.”

I paused. “Let him in.”

I knew Ryan’s character. He would not give up until he achieved his goal.
If I were to drive him away this time, he would come again next time.
So, I figured that we would talk it out, once and for all.
Derek didn’t refuse me and let Ryan in, though his face was dark.
Today, Ryan looked pale and haggard.
There wasn’t a trace of his former confidence.
As soon as he came in, he wanted to pounce on me.
Derek stood guard in front of the bed and said, “Just stand here and talk. If you come any closer, I will throw you out right now.”
Ryan glared at him hatefully, but he was still afraid and didn’t dare to get too close.
He could only look at me from a distance.
His eyes were red. “Emma, I know I was bad to you before. Please, for the sake of our marriage, leave me a way out.”
