‘Gavin came to find me? What does that have to do with me? It’s his decision, he drove the car himself. Cecilia thought.
Then, she took a deep breath to calm herself before replying, “Charles, Gavin’s situation has nothing to do with me. He’s in the hospital, and there are doctors and nurses taking care of him.” Without waiting for a response, she hung up the phone.
At this time, the renovation workers hired for the villa were preparing her workspace, and since Chloe had great taste, Cecilia didn’t interfere.
After finishing up her work, Cecilia noticed there were still many unopened packages at home. As she added new items, she slowly decorated the house to her liking.
The doorbell rang, and Cecilia got up to open the door, only to find Charles and Xavier standing there.
“I asked Frank for your address,” Charles explained directly, stating his purpose.
“Cecilia, I know there’s been some misunderstanding between you and Gavin. I’m not here to pressure you or ask you to reconcile, but I just want you to go to the hospital and see him!”
“The doctor said Gavin hit his head and needs to rest. He keeps trying to leave the hospital to see you. You don’t want him to get worse, do you?” Xavier said.
He stepped aside and pointed to the car. “We came to pick you up. Just come with us to the hospital.”
Cecilia frowned, a little helpless. “I made it clear on the phone. His matters have nothing to do with me.” Her attitude was firm in rejecting their request.
Charles lowered his voice to plead, “I know why you’re upset. Gavin was wrong, but you’ve been together for so many years, and you’re about to get married. It shouldn’t have come to this, right? Cecilia, please, go see him. I’m begging you.”
Chloe, who had been listening from inside the villa, couldn’t take it anymore and walked out to confront them.
“Is Gavin dead? Are you trying to get Cecilia to see him for the last time?” Chloe’s words made everyone fall silent.
“If Gavin wants to repent before he dies, then forget it. Cecilia doesn’t have time for that. If Gavin’s dead, I’ll go buy some champagne to celebrate. Do you want to stay and have a drink?” Chloe added.
Charles and Xavier were probably not expecting her to suddenly speak up.
“Has Gavin done anything wrong to you?” Xavier couldn’t understand why Chloe was so angry.
They knew Chloe was Cecilia’s best friend, and though they had met her at parties before, they weren’t close, so they didn’t expect her to speak so bluntly.
“No grudge, I just can’t stand scumbags,” Chloe stood in front of Cecilia, glaring at the two men. “Please leave.”
“This is between Cecilia and Gavin. You’d better not get involved,” Charles frowned, looking at Cecilia as he tried to reason with her. “Gavin called to say you resigned.
“He was emotionally unstable, and that’s why he had the accident. Please go see him. Any misunderstandings can be cleared up in person. It’s his fault, and he can apologize to you.”

Cecilia calmly shook her head. “I don’t need to.”
Chloe sarcastically retorted, “I can’t be involved in my best friend’s business, but what right do you have to interfere? You’re supposed to be Cecilia’s friends too, right? Why aren’t you considering her feelings? Well, men always side with other men.”
Xavier couldn’t help but remind her, “Just say what you need to say, no need to throw insults at all of us.”
“Why can’t I insult you? You and Gavin are cut from the same cloth,” Chloe said without hesitation, not holding back.
Charles and Xavier were well–known figures in Kingsford, and they weren’t used to being spoken to like this.
“Can you make any sense? Women are really troublesome,” Xavier couldn’t resist arguing back at Chloe.
“Men are really emotional,” Chloe shot back just as fiercely.
Charles’s expression darkened, but he continued to lower his voice to persuade Cecilia, “Cecilia, we’ve known each other for so many years. I’ve seen how deep your feelings for Gavin are. Please don’t do something you’ll regret.”
Facing their mutual friends, Cecilia didn’t want to hide anything. “Gavin and I have already broken up, and I’ve resigned. From now on, his matters have nothing to do with me.”
She didn’t want to waste time on a flawed relationship, and she didn’t want to make things public. After all, relationships were a matter between two people, and once she let go, it was completely over.
Charles and Xavier were both stunned. They never expected that the relationship of over a decade, built on childhood memories, would end just like this.
“Even if you’ve broken up, does that mean you can’t even be friends? Gavin’s in the hospital. Just go see him,” Charles, knowing the situation in the hospital well, continued to press her.
Cecilia remained unmoved.
Chloe was furious at their persistent attempts. “What? A scumbag still has the nerve to ask Cecilia to go to the hospital? Are you here forcing Cecilia to go to the hospital, siding with Gavin, thinking he’s not at fault?”
“There’s no right or wrong in relationships, arguments are normal. It takes two to make a quarrel,” Xavier said, but his comment only made Chloe angrier.
“It takes two to make a quarrel? I could tear you apart by myself today. Do you not know that Gavin cheated on her with the female university student he was supporting?
“Cecilia’s dignified resignation and breakup was to save his face. If it were me, I’d put the evidence of Gavin’s affair on the front page of Kingsford’s news.” Chloe shot back, not holding anything back.
“Gavin and Stella didn’t have anything,” Xavier defended Gavin, clearly taking his side. “Cecilia, after all these years of relationship, aren’t you being too heartless?”
Cecilia found Xavier’s bias laughable. Before she could speak, Chloe gave her a comforting look, then turned to Xavier.
“What exactly counts as cheating? Do you have to catch them in bed together? Emotional betrayal is still cheating. Why does Gavin’s car accident concern Cecilia? I hate when scumbags pretend to be loving.

Charles and Xavier exchanged a glance. Neither of them expected the situation to escalate like this.

“Cecilia, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pressure you. If you change your mind, please go visit Gavin in the hospital,” Charles still tried to persuade her.
“Get out of here!” Chloe immediately locked the door.
She was furious, but when she turned to look at Cecilia, her tone softened. “Cecilia, are you alright?”
Cecilia was momentarily lost in thought. “What could be wrong with me? You’re protecting me so well. You’ve lost your voice yelling, let me get you some water.”
Chloe shook her head. “At a time like this, who needs water? We should celebrate with some wine. The scumbag has finally paid the price.”

In the hospital, VIP room, Gavin woke up but fell back into a light sleep due to dizziness.
Stella rushed in upon hearing the news to take care of him. There was no one else in the room. Stella looked at Gavin’s handsome face, unable to resist the urge to reach out and gently touch him.
