Chapter 14
This news came like a bolt from the blue.
Kevin never imagined that he had been immersed in the lies woven by Zoey, even self–doubting and regretting for so many years because of their breakup.
In those days, he spent all day getting drunk and feeling sad for Zoey, while she was enjoying herself with other men. How ridiculous and disgusting it was.
Chasing dreams, having no choice but to do so. It’s all absurd!
But he believed it anyway.
Not only did he believe, but also thinking about the past old feelings brought him back home, helping her plan and support her career, but in the end, it led Lena to despair and self–immolation. It also made him lose the person who loved him the most.
“That day, Lena was wrongly accused, Kevin trembled uncontrollably, the image of that day flashing through his mind.”
Lena clearly said it wasn’t her. But he chose to believe Zoey, even drugged the wine and made her drink it, pushing her into the wolves‘ den.
There was also a phone call from the police station, saying it was rape?! Just the thought of these two words made his brain feel like there were millions of ants gnawing and sucking on his brain marrow.
There was a sudden loud bang!
Kevin waved his hand and swept everything off the table next to him,

causing things to crash to the ground. He then began hitting his head repeatedly in an attempt to alleviate the pain.
“Mr. Halden, don’t do this! The people nearby were so scared that they quickly stepped forward to stop him.”

This was the first time he had seen his boss like this, completely devoid of the usual calm and composure.
It is also understandable that his wife passed away, and his first love, whom he thought was his beloved crush, turned out to be a vain and materialistic woman. It would be difficult for anyone to accept this.
After a while, Kevin finally calmed down.
He gestured for everyone to leave, then lay on the hospital bed staring blankly at the ceiling, starting to review everything that had happened in the past five days.
Thinking back on Zoey’s actions, Lena’s previous crimes were probably
also framed.
At the auction, without saying a word, he locked Lena in the warehouse, forgetting that she was most afraid of the dark and needed a light on every night to fall asleep.
And then there was the time when Zoey injured his hand, in a fit of anger he smashed Lena’s hand, forgetting that she also used to play the pipa skillfully, her hand was just as important to her.
Searched or not searched.
Every time he recalls a scene, it feels like a knife is cutting through his heart. Each and every one of them, his heart has long been torn to shreds, the pain making his flesh and blood blur.

“Lena, I’m sorry… Kevin curled up, tears streaming down from the corners of his eyes. The sound of his choked sobs filled the entire hospital room, making people sigh involuntarily. Unfortunately, there is no medicine for regrets in this world.”
Lena‘ also did not come back to life.
All morning, Kevin lay still in bed, not touching the food that was brought in. He even wished he could just sleep through it all.
Suddenly, at that moment, his phone rang, showing Zoey calling.
Kevin’s eyes darkened, and he suddenly sat up, staring blankly at the name on the phone screen, a murderous intent gradually emerging in his
eyes.
He reached out and pressed the answer button.
“Kevin, where are you?” Zoey’s voice came into his ears. Kevin clenched his fists and before he could answer, the other person asked again, “I came back and saw the greenhouse in the backyard burned down, and also, how come I heard that Lena… died?”
There was a hint of excitement mixed in with the probing tone.
Kevin’s heart was stabbed.
He clenched his back teeth and suppressed his anger: “Yes, Lena… she’s dead. Don’t go anywhere, stay at home and wait for me. I’ll come back to find you right away.”
