Chapter 38
He smirked. “Fine. Just remember, when you get the job. I’m cashing in a fancy dinner”
Melissa laughed, the tension finally easing “Deal. You’ve camed it,”
Outside the cafe. Bradley and Ned exited the towering Parvati building. Bradley’s sharp gaze swept across the street and froze on the cafe window. Through the glass, he spotted Melissa seated across from Scott, her laughter bright and unguarded. His expression darkened instantly.
Bradley frowned, nodding toward Scott through the cafe window, “Who’s that guy?” he asked Ned Cole.
Ned glanced over, narrowing his eyes. He didn’t know Scott, but the badge color was unmistakable. Looks like one of our employees.
Bradley’s expression darkened further. “Grinning like that… so she passed the interview?”
Ned checked his watch thoughtfully. First round should be done by now, but she’s got a second round coming up.”
Bradley snorted and started walking again. “Not even hired yet, and they’re already celebrating? Guess someone’s feeling pretty damn confident.”
Ned gave him a sideways glance, catching the sharp undertone in his voice. Te turned back for another look at Scott and suddenly found him Incredibly annoying.
After saying goodbye to Scott, Melissa Bush returned to her apartment. She’d barely set her bag down when her phone rang. It was, The Parvati’s HIL department.
“Ms. Bush, we’re pleased to invite you to the second–round interview tomorrow,” said the voice on the other end.
Melissa could hardly believe it. Excitement bubbled up, and she nearly jumped in place.
That evening, during her video call with Curtis, she couldn’t keep the news to herself “Sweetheart, guess what? Mommy had an interview today. and I think I’m about to get the job!”
“Really? Mommy, you’re amazing!” Curtis exclaimed, clapping his little hands with pure excitement. His joy was contagious, and for a while, they chatted away happily.
Sining nearby, Bradley pretended to focus on his book, but his sharp cars were tuned to every word.
When Curtis handed the phone back to him. Bradley tilted his head with a smirk. “So, job’s all sorted out? Goits admit, you’re full of surprises.”
Melissa rarely saw eye to eye with Bradley, but for once, she let his teasing slide. She smiled and replied, “It’s just a job. Not exactly rocket science, I’ve only been holding out because I wanted to pick the best option.”
She wasn’t about to show any weakness. Not to him.
Bradley raised an eyebrow, leaning back slightly. “Oh! So this company must be pretty damn special, huh?”
Melissa straightened, her confidence unwavering. ‘Of course. It’s one of the top players in the industry–nationwide reach, booming international business. Even during probation, the salary’s over 6,500 dollars”
Bradley let out a low whistle, “Damn. A company like that? You sure they’ll take you?”
The jab stung, but Melissa didn’t flinch. She kept her smale steady. “They offered me a position three years ago. I turned them down. Whether I take the job this time depends on my other offers. Don’t forget, Mr. Moore–once I’ve got my life together, Cuntis is coming back with me. That was the
deal”
Bradley’s lips curled into a smug, knowing smile, “Relax. I always keep my word. And honestly, with someone as capable as you, I’m happy to hand
him over
When the call ended, Melissa let out a long exhale. Sparring with Bradley was exhausting, even when she won.
The next day, Melissa’s second–round interview was with The Parvatis design director. The session went smoothly, and she left the office feeling good about her performance.
After she left, the director flipped through her portfolio, scrutinizing her designs. He lingered over a few pages, then nodded to himself and marked her application with an approving check.
Melissa, unaware of the decision, spent the next two days in agonizing anticipation. She checked her phone constantly, but no call came. When she reached out to Scout, he apologized, saying he was on a business trip and couldn’t follow for her.
