Chapter 43
Following the head waiter’s instructions, Melissa went to deliver the wine. As she knocked and entered the private room, she frowned slightly.
A foul smell of tobacco assaulted her nostrils, nearly making her sneeze. The room was dimly lit, filled with noisy chatter, and occupied by seven or so men and women who were engaging in conversation, wine glasses and cigarettes in hand.
Melissa didn’t look around. She greeted them as scheduled and then went to the table with a tray of wine.
“It’s really hard to connect with Mr. Moore. I’ve tried to arrange a few meetings before to secure some investment, but I didn’t even get to see him,” someone started.
“He’s too low–key Wine or women excite little interest in him. He seems to have no weaknesses and doesn’t like to appear in public, quite difficult to approach.”
“Isn’t he childhood friends with Mr. Samuel Finley? That guy is a playboy, appearing in entertainment news every other day. Mr. Wallaker, why don’t you try contacting him? Maybe he can introduce you to Mr. Moore’s circle,”
“Exactly, once you’re connected with the Moore family, your company’s problem will be water under the bridge”
Melissa, resisting the odor of smoke, slowly approached them with the tray in hand.
Just out of the bathroom, Hannah instantly spotted her. Hesitant for a moment, she sneered
With a slight mudge, she sent Melissa Bush’s body to lose ballance, causing the wine on her tray to fall and crash onto the glass table with a loud “clang” and shutter into pieces.
Melissa’s face turned pale with fright instantly, and she instinctively knelt to salvage the expensive wine.
Unfortunately, the bottle was shattered, and the wine had seeped into the carpet, making her actions appear hilariously futile and clumsy.
Amidst the bustling crowd, all eyes were drawn to her.
Standing behind Melissa, Hannah mapped, “What’s wrong with you? Can’t even carry a bottle of wine properly? Do you know how much it costs? So how are you going to compensate for this?
When Melissa heard the familiar voice, the heart that was just in turmoil and fear gradually calmed down. She wasn’t naïve and knew exactly what was happening
Hannah was causing trouble for her.
Slowly standing up, Melissa, looked straight at Hannah and said word by word, her hands clenched into fists, “You bumped into me.”
Hannah stared back into her eyes, feigning surprise. “Oh, isn’t this the genius in our class? Melissa, how come you’re waitressing here? I thought you’d be a design director at some big company by now… Oh my my…
“Melissat Is it really you?”
y are you working here?”
“Why are
Surprised voices echoed around at this time.
It was then that Melissa looked at the others around her. There were several familiar faces. It turned out most in the room, were her classmates from back in the day.
Hugh leaned against the sofa, his previously furrowed brow slowly smoothing out, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth as he watched Melissa with a composed air.
Being so astonishingly identified by acquaintances, Melissa felt her face gradually grow hot, her body tensing up.
She was once the academic prodigy in her class, the unreachable campus belle, but now was bowing respectfully to her classmates with a tray. Her former prie lud degraded into a naked irony.
Embarrassed to the core, she hoped she could feign passing out on the spot.
Hannah crossed her arms, chin raised high. “Mela, as an old classmate, I won’t make things difficult for you. The wine you broke is worth 60 thousand dollar. But I’ll give you a discount. Fifty thousand dollars, pay up”
Knowing she was doing it on purpose, Melissa bit the inside of her mouth tightly, and only after several seconds did she manage to calm her emotions, saying. You were the one who bumped into me, why should I pay!”
