Chapter 20
“Anyone with eyes can see this room is way worse than the one 1 had before” Naomi shouted, clutching her chest in frustration.
Adrian, helpless, tried to reason with her. “Grandma, your condition doesn’t require a VIP room, and the cost is much higher…
But Naom wouldn’t listen. She shouted even louder. “Where’s Isis? I want Isist I want her to take care of me!”
She knew that Isis was generous and would always fulfill her requests. If Isis were here, there was no way she’d let her be moved to this room.
Hearing Isis’s name made Adrian’s expression darken. He thought, ‘Again with Isis Why can’t this family just move on from her!
Layla’s teeth clenched in anger. She thought, Why? Why does everyone in the Anderson family keep bringing up Isis! That useless woman—what do they see in her?
When Naomi started causing a scene, Adrian quickly rushed over to calm her down “Grandma, please, don’t get worked up. It’s bad for your heart. Just rest for now, okay?”
But Naomi was relentless. I don’t want to! I won’t listen! I want Isis here! I want to stay in my old room! I’m going to ask her why she had me
Finally. Layla couldn’t hold back any longer. “Isis’s not coming! She’s not your granddaughter–in–law anymore!”
“Layla“” Adrian shouted, his voice rising. He thought, ‘How could she bring up the divorce like that! Naomix heart can’t take this kind of shock. She is her doctor; she should know better than anyone.
Naomi went quiet, her mind trying to process what Layla had just said. After a long pause, she finally asked in disbelief, “What nonsense are you talking about!”
Layla’s expression was cold and composed. “I’m not making this up. Adrian and Isis are already divorced”
Layla knew exactly how fragile Naomi’s heart was, but she wondered, “What is so shocking about the news? Am I not a much better Mrs. Anderson than Isis ever was!”
Layla couldn’t understand. We are already married, so why am I still being treated like this”
Naomi’s gaze turned to Adrian, her face a mixture of shock and disbelief, “Adrian, is that true?”
Adrian, seeing her reaction, had no choice but to admit it. “Yes, Grandma. Isis and I are divorced”
Divorced… Divorced. The words echoed in Naomi’s mind, ringing over and over. She thought, Isis and Adrian are divorced. No wonder I am moved out of the VIP rooITE
Without Isis, who would pay the expensive fees to keep me in a nice room? Without Esis, who could I turn to for money!
Wait, next month is my 80th birthday! I have already told all my friends and relatives that I am hosting the celebration at the top floor of Regal Restaurant, the best restaurant in Sans City!
But without Isis, would William and Adrian still be willing to spend that much on my birthday! If all my plans fall apart, how can I face everyone? How would I save face!
‘Isis, the golden goose of a granddaughter–in–law, is gone… The thought hit Naomi like a freight train. Her vision blurred, and in an instant, she collapsed, fainting.
“Grandma” As he saw Naomi fall unconscious, Adrian’s face went pale with panic. He immediately shouted for an ambulance.
Layla’s heart skipped a bear. She thought. She fainted just like that? Just because she finds out about their divorce? Why? How could Isis have such an impact on her?”
“Layla” A furious shout snapped Layla back to reality: She lifted her gaze and met Adrian’s eyes–bloodshot and filled with rage. It sent a jolt through her.
“Help her!” Adrian harked
Layla knew she was at fault. She let her emotions cloud her professional judgment as a doctor–she shouldn’t have let that happen. She quickly composed herself and refocused, determined to stabilize Naomi’s condition.
But as she worked, a nagging thought lingered in the back of her mind: if something happened to Naomi, she’d have no place left in the Anderson family.

Linkily, after a tense few minutes of resuscitation, Naomi’s condition finally stabilized. Layla let out a sigh of relief, but when she looked up, Adriana gaze was still cold, his expression distanu.
Feeling guilty Layla spoke first, “Adrian
“You shouldist have provoked Grandma, Adrian said coldly, “Layla, you’ve let your emotions get in the way of your professionalism. I’m really
Layla felt a night knot form in her chest. His words stirred up all the frustration she’d been bouling up for days.
“You’re disappointed in me?” she snapped. “What about me! Haven’t been disappointed in you! Do you even remember You said you’d make me happy, but look at everything that’s happened lately. Have 1 lund a single day of happiness?”
Adrian stared at her, clearly stunned. “You, you’re saying you’re not happy with me?
er what you p
promised met
Layla bit her lip, holding back the hum. She paused for a moment before sighing deeply, “Adrian, 1 just wanted to be with you openly. I wanted everyone to know that I’m your wife. What’s so wrong with that
Layla thought. That no matter what, everyone still keeps bringing up Isis, dragging
ng her name in
name into everything. How can I just let it go?
Before Adrian could respond, a nurse burst into the room, rushing toward them. “Dr. Wilson! Something’s wrong with Samuel!”
Layla’s heart sank. She immediately followed the nurse to the VIP room, with Adrian right behind her. She thought. This is a highly important patient–nothing could go wrong!”
When Layla entered the room, she immediately performed a full check–up. Her heart dropped. Samuel’s condition had worsened rapidly–he was hanging on by a thread.
Soon after, Robert arrived. Seeing Layla step out of the room, he quickly approached her. “How’s the patient?”
Layla shook her head. “The patient is showing signs of infection and heart failure. His body is deteriorating fast. His condition is extremely a Robert’s lace fell as he heard the news. He rushed in to check for himself, and, as expected, the situation was exactly as Layla had reported. At this stage, surgery was the only option–though the chances of success were slim.
Robert turned to Layla. What are the chances if we perform surgery!”
Layla lowered her eyes, taking a moment to think before responding. “Director, you know the patient’s condition is no longer suitable for surgery. In this state, the chances of success are nearly zero..
Robert sighed, already knowing that. But he still held onto a sliver of hope. After all, Layla had a reputation for being an excellent doctor, and she was one of the hospital’s top recruits. He couldn’t help but hope she might find a solution.
Have you informed the family?” Robert asked.
Layla nodded. “Yes, they’ve been notified and are on their way
Robert nodded firmly. “We need to do evervil
to do everything in our power to keep Samuel stable until his family a arrives”
Samuel was of critical importance–there was no way they could let him pass away before Julian showed up. If that happened, the hospital’s reputation could be on the line.
Layla thought for a moment and then suggested, “Director, I recommend administering a strong heart stimulant immediately Rober looked at her in surprise. “Has it really come to the point where we need a stimulant?”
