Upon hearing this, Paola asked in confusion. “Why? Grandpa has always been healing patients and saving lives. Shouldn’t others respect him a lot?”
“You’ll understand it when you’re a bit older,” Phoebe said.
“Huh… Okay.” Paola nodded.
While they were chatting, Colton stormed into the kitchen with a stern face and grunted, “How’s dinner? You two keep yakking, and we’ll have to eat a burnt pot.”
Phoebe realized Colton was deliberately giving her a hard time for fun. She flashed a helpless smile, thinking. “The older he gets, the more childish he becomes.
However, she wondered how much longer this carefree time would stretch on.
Colton would eventually have to head back to Noblepolis. Perhaps when Paola could handle things on her own, he’d make his move.
Seeing the two cooking with focus, Colton gave a nod of approval and walked off, hands behind his back.
Once he disappeared through the kitchen door, Phoebe and Paola exchanged glances and burst into laughter.
From the second day onwards, Colton handed over incoming patients to Phoebe and Yann, claiming he wanted to test their medical skills after years away. In fact, it was just his excuse to loaf on the job.
They had to see hundreds of patients daily, with Paola tagging along to prepare medicines as per their prescriptions. The day before they would end this week–long visit, Colton finally granted them a break.
After skimming through the diagnosis records and prescriptions of two patients, Colton nodded with satisfaction. “Well done. You two haven’t lost your touches from back in the day.”
“Mr. Walker, have you been dealing with this ma
patients daily for years now?” Phoebe asked.
She recalled Colton’s old rule of seeing only twenty patients a day. His appointments were booked up to a year in advance.
Colton stroked his beard and smiled, “No, you’ve been handling the patients for me these days. Once you’re done, I’ll be off for a two–month vacation.”
“Mr. Walker, is it really alright for you to slack off like this?” Phoebe asked.
Rumor had it that the renowned doctor Colton was hot–tempered and often closed his clinic on a whim. Little did they know he was actually a hilarious old man.

come to see me every two months, I can retire.”
Phoebe and Yann exchanged glances and couldn’t help chuckling.
“If we visited you once every two months, you’d probably think we were bugging you,” Yann joked.
Colton nodded in
“Exactly. Go pack your bags. You have an early start tomorrow.”
As Phoebe was sorting through her clothes, Paola approached with a box and said, “Phoebe, this is from Grandpa. He asked me to give it to you.”
She took the box and opened it. To her astonishment, inside was an herbal lotus. Unlike the usual white ones, this one was a

“Phoebe, Grandpa said this was the last herbal lotus you planted. If there’s an emergency, go to him for help. Don’t try to cultivate this plant on your own without his permission!” Paola warned.
Seeing Paola’s serious expression, Phoebe nodded and said, “I see.”
“Alright, Paola said.
After Paola left, Phoebe put away the herbal lotus and exhaled a sigh of relief. With this herbal lotus, Declan’s leg had a chance to be saved.
In the evening. Colton whipped up a whole meal for Phoebe and Yann and brought out his aged wine that he had been saving for years.
Phoebe and Yann joined Colton for a few drinks. However, just after a few rounds of drinks, Colton pretended to be drunk and went back to his room.
Paola’s eyes were slightly red as she looked at Phoebe and Yann. “Actually, Grandpa really misses you guys. Even though he doesn’t express it these days, I know he’s thrilled to have you back.”
They too felt a pang of reluctance. After all, they had lived there for several years, and Colton had become like family to them.
Despite their reluctance to say goodbye, they knew they had to leave eventually.
The next morning, as Phoebe and Yann prepared to leave, Colton didn’t come out to bid them farewell.
So, they walked up to Colton’s room, bowed deeply towards his door as a gesture of respect, and then left.
On their way back to Luminis, both of them felt down and remained silent.
Upon arriving at Luminis Airport and stepping out of the car, they were intercepted by several men dressed in black.
“Ms. Greene, Mr. White, please come with us,” the men said.
