Phoebe smiled. “Of course. For three years, his heart has always belonged to Jennifer. I understand that clearly now. As long as you are willing to step in, I’ll agree to the divorce.”
Roselyn still seemed somewhat skeptical. She couldn’t believe that Phoebe would willingly leave Declan and give up the Richardson family’s wealth. “I’ll need some time to think about this. After all, Declan’s opinion is what truly matters,” she said.
Phoebe immediately understood–her grandmother was trying to hedge her bets. She was tempted by the idea of marrying Jennifer to Declan but was also afraid of offending him.
“Take your time, Grandma,” Phoebe said. She wasn’t in any rush anyway.
When she returned to the spacious living room, Declan was the only one there, staring at her unhappily from the couch.

Phoebe frowned, puzzled as to why Liam wasn’t

“Where were you just now?” Declan asked, his anger palpable.
He was still stewing over what he had overheard in the garden. He had been expecting Phoebe to come find him and apologize. But instead, she had simply disappeared, and his irritation had only grown stronger.
Phoebe remained calm as she walked over and sat down across from him. “I everyone else?”

Phoebe met his gaze. His eyes were filled with anger–he was clearly still fuming. She said, “I think what I said was quite clear. What is there to explain?”

Knowing that he was genuinely upset, Phoebe pressed her lips together and then said, “I came here today for dinner. I don’t want to argue with you.”
Declan sneered, “Then stop saying things I don’t want to hear.”
“Got it,” replied Phoebe, deciding that she’d just say them where he couldn’t hear.
A heavy silence settled between them, neither speaking another word.
Before long, Liam walked into the room, carrying a bottle of expensive wine. Smiling obsequiously, he said, “Mr. Richardson, I went to the wine cellar and brought out a bottle of Lafite I’ve been saving for years.
“Would you do me the honor of sharing a glass tonight?”
Under normal circumstances, Declan, as Liam’s son–in–law, should have been the one trying to win Liam’s favor, if needed. But since Declan never took his wife seriously, and the Greene family depended on the Richardson family, the situation had become completely reversed.
Phoebe had no real attachment to Liam, so she simply watched him indifferently.
“Mr. Greene, I’m afraid that won’t be possible. I drove here today,” said Declan.
Liam quickly responded, “That’s not a problem at all. I can have our driver take you home, or you could just stay here for the night.”

Declan paused for a few seconds, seemingly considering something, before nodding slightly. “Alright.”
Soon, dinner was served, and a maid came to invite them to the dining table.
Perhaps deliberately, Liam arranged for Jennifer to sit on Declan’s left, while Phoebe was seated on his right.

Throughout the meal, Jennifer was relentless, constantly placing food on Declan’s plate. She chattered non–stop, never seeming to tire.
“Declan, this is your favorite–beef stew.”
“Declan, the chef made pumpkin pie today. Try some. It’s delicious.”
“Declan…”

Phoebe remained unbothered. Instead, she watched the scene with an air of amusement. Jennifer’s eyes were full of adoration as she gazed at Declan. If it weren’t for the people around them, Phoebe suspected she might have already thrown herself at him.
Just as the scene crossed her mind, Declan suddenly put a spare rib onto her plate and said, “Eat more. You’re too thin—it doesn’t feel good to hold you.”
In an instant, everyone at the table looked at her. Jennifer fixed her with a cold, venomous stare, as if she were ready to tear her apart.
