Declan wore casual clothes today, quite a contrast to his usual sharp suit and tie, yet he still exuded an air of coldness that made people want to keep their distance.
Phoebe and Declan exchanged glances, quickly looking away with calm expressions.
Karin Wilson, the housekeeper at Elysian House, smiled warmly when she saw Phoebe. “Hi, Phoebe, long time no see. Mrs. Richardson has been waiting for you.”
Karin had always taken care of Audrey. Although their relationship could be described as that of a servant and mistress, in reality, they were more like close friends.
Phoebe smiled and handed over a box of pastries. “Karin, this is your favorite cupcake, from that shop you love, and also the Brownie that Mrs. Richardson likes.”
Karin accepted the pastries with a beaming smile. “Thank you, Phoebe. I’ll cut them up and send them to Mrs. Richardson right away. She’s been craving these for a while.”
“Alright, I’ll go see Mrs. Richardson now,” Phoebe said.
As Phoebe entered the living room, Audrey was instructing the servants to place the snacks Phoebe liked on the table. “Pheebs loves these candies. Put them in the front, and that little cookie too, place it in the front as well.”
Phoebe couldn’t help but smile, thinking to herself, ‘Mrs. Richardson is so good to me. She spoils me so much!
“Mrs. Richardson, you’ve prepared so much. How am I supposed to finish all of this on my own?” Phoebe said.
Audrey looked back in surprise. “Hey, Pheebs, you’re here. If you can’t finish it, I’ll have them pack it up for you to take home and enjoy later.”
Phoebe walked over and took Audrey’s arm, smiling. “Don’t worry about it. Let’s just sit down and chat for a bit.”
“Alright,” Audrey replied.
As soon as they sat down, Audrey carefully examined Phoebe and noticed she seemed thinner than last time, a look of concern crossing her face. “Why have you lost weight again? I heard from Declan that you’ve found a job.
“If it’s too tiring, don’t do it. Declan makes enough to support you. Also, I have some money here. I can give it all to you.”
Phoebe shook her head. “It isn’t too tiring. Besides, I get so bored staying at home all the time.”
Seeing that Phoebe was firm in her decision, Audrey didn’t press further. “Alright, if you get too tired, just quit. Don’t overwork yourself.”
“Okay, I understand,” Phoebe said.
While they were talking, Declan entered the living room and sat down across from them.
Though he didn’t interrupt their conversation, his presence alone made him impossible to ignore.
Audrey noticed that once Declan entered the room, Phoebe’s smile faded slightly. She sharply sensed that the two had argued.
“Declan, I asked the servants to make some juice in the kitchen. Can you go see why it hasn’t been brought over yet?” Audrey
looked at him.
Once Declan left, Audrey turned to Phoebe. “Pheebs, what’s going on between you two? Did Declan let you down?”

“If Declan’s bullying you, just let me know. I won’t let him get away with it,” Audrey whispered.
“Okay, Mrs. Richardson, you’re so kind.” Phoebe laughed.

Soon, Declan returned with the juice, placing it on the table. He looked at Audrey and said, “I’m going to the study to handle some documents.”
Audrey shot him a disapproving look. “Such an impolite guy! Don’t you even say goodbye to Pheebs?”
He’s so thoughtless. No wonder Phoebe argued with him, Audrey thought.
Phoebe sensed Declan’s gaze on her and lowered her head, speaking coldly. “Mr. Richardson, please don’t mind. Mrs. Richardson is just joking. You go ahead and get to work. I’ll stay here and chat with her.”
