Right now, being with her felt like punching cotton, soft, yielding, and utterly pointless. He had no idea how to interact with her anymore.
After a moment of silence, Declan got up and left the room.
Phoebe did not bother wondering where he had gone. After resting for a while, she applied sunscreen and stepped out, intending to explore the resort.
She had come here to enjoy herself, not to argue with Declan.
After strolling around for a while, she found herself at the stables.
It had been a long time since she had ridden a horse, and she immediately felt tempted. One of the reasons she had agreed to come to the resort with Audrey was because she had mentioned there would be horseback riding.
Phoebe walked toward the stable’s equipment area, where not only various riding gear was displayed, but also rental options. Of course, purchasing was an option, but the prices were significantly higher.
As soon as she stepped inside, a staff member approached her. “Ms. Greene, hello. How can I assist you?”
Phoebe nodded. “Hi, I’d like to buy a set of riding gear and some horse equipment.”
“Certainly. The riding gear is on the left side. Please follow me,” the staff member said.
Phoebe chose a dark red riding outfit and matched it with gloves, a safety helmet, and riding boots. After getting a riding crop and some other horse equipment, she changed into her new attire and followed the staff to the stables to select a horse.
The trainer chose a relatively smaller horse for her based on her height. “Ms. Greene, this horse has a gentle temperament, perfect for female riders.
“You can spend some time getting familiar with it first. Later, I’ll lead it around for a slow lap, and then you can gradually pick up speed.”
Phoebe glanced at the recommended horse, then swept her gaze across the stable until her eyes locked onto a sturdy, chestnut–colored horse in the corner.
She pointed at it with her riding crop. “I want that one.”
A flicker of surprise crossed the trainer’s face, and just as he was about to respond, a mocking voice rang out behind her. “You sure are confident, huh? Insisting on challenging a wild horse. Aren’t you afraid you’ll fall and break your neck?”
Phoebe turned around and saw that Declan, Scott, and a few others had appeared behind her at some point. She frowned slightly.
The one speaking was Bianca. ‘Looks like the lesson from Heart’s Whisper wasn’t harsh enough. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be provoking me again so soon, Phoebe thought.
Scott glanced at Declan, who remained expressionless, then frowned and said to Bianca, “Bianca, just drop it.”
Bianca’s face darkened. Just as she was about to speak, Jennifer chimed in. “Scott, Bianca is just concerned about Pheebs. She’s afraid she might fall off the horse and get hurt.”
Scott had no interest in arguing with two women over Phoebe, so he stayed silent.
Phoebe had no patience for their nonsense. She turned to the trainer and said, “Sir, I’ll take that one. Please bring it over. There are too many flies here, and they’re getting on my nerves.”

Bianca clenched her teeth in anger. The stable was cleaned daily; there were no flies here. Phoebe was clearly calling her and Jennifer flies.
Just as Bianca was fuming, her wrist was suddenly grabbed. She turned and saw Jennifer giving her a meaningful look, signaling her to wait and watch.
Phoebe had chosen a wild horse. If she fell, the best–case scenario was an injury, and the worst–case scenario? She might not survive. Jennifer was more than happy with either outcome.
After all, in her eyes, Phoebe was just a girl from a poor village. There was no way she knew how to ride a horse.
lan was intrigued. Judging by Declan’s expression, he had probably argued with Phoebe again. Otherwise, he would not just stand there and let her pick a dangerous horse without stopping her.
Marcus, on the other hand, frowned and said, “Declan, even I might not be able to handle that horse. Phoebe will definitely get hurt. You should talk to her.”
After all, Declan was Phoebe’s husband. Among everyone present, he was the only one truly in a position to stop her.
But Declan’s expression remained indifferent, his eyes devoid of warmth. “She picked it herself. If she gets hurt, that’s on her,” he said coldly.
