Chapter 1
Jolie Gibson had been married to Leroy Yost–the prince of New York’s elite–for five years.
She thought he loved her.
Until his long–lost, first love came back from the dead.
On the very day Jane Cunningham returned, she ran over Jolie’s mother with a luxury car and left her to die on the street.
Jolie refused all settlement offers. She wanted justice. She wanted Jane in prison.
But Leroy didn’t want justice. He wanted Jane.
That same day, high above the clouds in his private jet, he gave Jolie a
choice-
“Sign the release papers, or watch your sister die.”
The cabin door swung open. Jolie’s little sister, Nikita, was tied up and shoved to the edge, trembling.
“Jolie… I’m scared.”
“Three seconds,” Leroy said lazily, legs crossed, eyes cold. “Choose.”
Jolie’s heart felt like it had been torn apart, overwhelmed by deep sorrow.
“Leroy, Jane killed my mother! She’s gone, and Nikita’s all I have left.”

“Do you realize what Nikita means to me?”
He leaned closer, casually, a mockingly gentle hand stroking her hair.
“Darling, when you decided to press charges against Jane, did you consider how much she means to me, hmm?”
He raised an eyebrow, gave her no time to speak, and resumed the countdown.
“Two!”
Jolie’s thoughts raced.
After five years of marriage, Leroy had always showered her with affection. Even in this moment, she held onto the slim hope that she still mattered to him.
She clutched the edge of his trousers, imploring, “Leroy, she’s the one at fault. At the very least, have Jane apologize to me.”
Unmoved, Leroy sighed in frustration.
“Jolie, Jane insisted it was an accident, and we can’t change what’s happened. Didn’t I mention she’s not doing well?“.
“You should try to be more empathetic. Why can’t you understand that? I’m really disappointed.”
Jolie looked at him and suddenly understood his determination.
Swallowing her resentment, she rasped, “Fine, I’ll sign. Just let Nikita go.”
Leroy finally allowed himself a faint smile. “That’s my good girl.”

But before she could feel any relief, his expression turned cold. He gazed down at her with arrogance.
“But honey, you’ve crossed the line too many times. You need to be punished.”
“One!”
The countdown finished.
A bodyguard kicked Nikita forcefully,. sending her small frame flying out of the cabin and into the void.
“No!”
Suddenly, a frantic scream cut through the icy, howling wind.
Jolie was overwhelmed with the desire to leap out and rescue her sister, but the bodyguards restrained her firmly and shut the cabin door mercilessly.
Jolie shook violently, as if being torn apart by a thousand knives, her eyes blazing with fury as she glared at Leroy. The last bit of affection she harbored shattered completely.
Who would have thought that just six months ago, she was the cherished Mrs. Yost? But one accident had completely upended her life.
That afternoon, Jolie’s mother was out for a walk when a speeding luxury car hit her. The driver didn’t stop and left the scene, leading to her mother’s death due to the absence of immediate medical help.
Jolie and Leroy were on a trip when the accident occurred. As Jolie mourned, Leroy embraced her, providing comfort while also trying to find out who was responsible.

However, when Leroy came across the driver’s photo, he was stunned. The face was exactly like that of his beloved crush, Jane, who had supposedly “died” a decade ago.
The investigation confirmed that it was Jane; she hadn’t perished but had been held captive overseas and only recently managed to escape.
Leroy, consumed by guilt, even disregarded the death of Jolie’s mother.
Jolie could never have predicted that events would deteriorate so drastically.
The affection she had once received from Leroy disappeared instantly.
The man who once vowed to chase her to the ends of the earth had
changed overnight.
