Kaeden had a dream.
At the age of eighteen, he participated in special military training in a remote mountainous area, where he met a lovely girl. Her father was addicted to gambling, her mother had an underlying condition and was in poor health, and she was taking care of her young sister to make a living.
That day she barged into the training area and bumped right into Kaeden, who was slacking off. Her deer–like clear eyes looked into his heart. She apologized with a hug, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to barge in, I was just curious about what you guys do in training.”
Kaeden originally wanted to scold her, but then he thought that the strict training was getting on his nerves, and it was quite interesting to have someone to accompany him. So, he’put on a stern face and threatened her, “Don’t go, you casually trespassed into the military base, I will punish you.”
The girl’s panicked expression amused him. The next second, he
restrained his expression and said coldly, “Do you see that hilltop? I’ll make you climb over there. If I don’t see you on the other side, I’ll report you.”
He was just too bored and wanted to tease her. Unexpectedly, when he climbed over that high mountain, the girl was already lying under a peach tree waiting for him, asleep. A strong sense of humiliation surged in his heart, “How did you get here faster than me, did you take a shortcut?”
The girl shook her head desperately, he refused to accept it and competed with her again, but he still lost.

“I used to climb this mountain every day to go to the city, you could never beat me.”
As the sun set over the hill, Kaeden, with his hands in tatters, propped himself up on his knees. He gritted his teeth and said, “That doesn’t count, you cheated. I will definitely be stronger and better than you in the future. Just wait for me, wait for me to compete with you again.”
Her smile was incredibly bright, “Okay, I’ll wait for you!”
The two of them walked down the mountain side by side, as the sky grew darker. Suddenly, Kaeden felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his ankle, causing him to step on a patch of loosely covered grass in agony.
His body slid down violently, with thorns scratching his skin. Just when he thought he would fall heavily into the valley, a hand grabbed him.
Back then, Jolie had amazing strength. She threw a vine to Kaeden and helped him climb up by using it.
As he finally sat on the smooth mossy stone, gasping for breath, the girl noticed the wound on his ankle. “Did a snake bite you?!”
Kaeden nodded in realization, looking up at her as a wave of dizziness and nausea washed over him.
Waking up again, he found himself lying on a soft pile of grass, with crushed herbs applied to the wounds on his feet.
“You, scion from this city, cannot withstand the snake venom. You should go back quickly and let the doctor treat you, or else you will lose your life.”
Kaeden nodded with a smile, and when he stood up, his leg was numb, almost falling into the soft arms of the girl. She helped him up, and

Kaeden then noticed that her palms were covered with calluses, but they were exceptionally warm.
As she was leaving, Kaeden asked her, “Will we see each other again in the future?”
She waved her hand with a smile, “Yes, I will leave the mountains and go to explore your big city.”
“This is for you, for protection, she said, as she placed an emerald pendant into Kaeden’s hand.”
Meeting again, it was already many years later at a gathering.
Jolie shed her youthful innocence, her slender figure complemented by a graceful dress, looking nothing like the girl who used to climb from the foot of the mountain to the top. Unfortunately, there was already someone new by her side.
She may have long forgotten him, let alone the cheeky boy who blushed in the evening twilight.
He first found out that her name was Jolie, and she was the Cinderella that the prince of New York’s elite Leroy had pursued for a long time before finally winning her over.
And that big mountain, now he can climb up before her, but she has become someone else’s wife.
Kaeden opened his eyes to find Jolie fast asleep, her long, curly eyelashes casting small shadows.
She swayed with the wind as soon as she moved, just like his heart.
He propped up his chin and quietly watched her, just like that day under the peach tree.
