Pressed the doorbell, Arlene stood nervously outside the door.
The nanny opened the door and was surprised to see Arlene standing outside looking disheveled.
The girl…” The nanny didn’t know what had happened to Arlene, but still welcomed her in, got her new slippers, and thoughtfully found a shawl to wrap around her.
“Mr. Stevenson was on a video call, he told me you would come over, so you can wait in the living room for a while,” the nanny said gently. “I’ll go pour you a cup of hot cocoa.”
Arlene was touched, not many strangers are kind to her, this nanny makes her feel comfortable.
Arlene carefully checked out the house decorations, she didn’t dare sit down, afraid of dirtying Albert’s sofa.
You can tell, Albert was a very cultured and clean rich guy, he must have been a gentleman.
After about three minutes, Albert çame out of the study.
Didn’t make Arlene wait too long.
Didn’t
He was wearing home clothes, probably just took a shower, with wet and loose hair.
Albert was about the same age as Brendan, but he had a more aggressive look, belonging to the “thick–faced” type, and he was a presence that could hold his own in the entertainment industry.
Arlene felt a bit insecure and suddenly decided to back out.

Why would such an outstanding person choose to marry her?
“Mr. Stevenson,” Arlene greeted first.
Albert looked at Arlene, who was completely soaked and in a mess, and paused.“Are you trying to save the world? Why do you look so disheveled?”
“……” Arlene paused for a moment, then looked down nervously.
When Albert started talking, he sounded quite ungentlemanly.

“Wang Ma, take her for a bath and change into clean clothes,” Albert frowned, looking her had come into the house.”

Albert’s complaint was full of disdain, but he still turned around, got cold medicine from the medicine box, dissolved it in water, and handed it to her.
Arlene was a bit taken aback, probably because she hadn’t experienced much kindness in her life.”
“After taking the medicine, I took a hot bath. Let’s talk later,” Albert said, holding a contract that stated prenuptial agreement. Arlene nodded, chugged down the medicine in one gulp, and then followed the nanny out like a headless fly.

Albert looked at Arlene, hesitated for a moment, raised his hand to stop her but it was too late.“Is the hot water not swallowed it in one breath.

This Arlene… is quite interesting.
Coming out of the bathroom, Arlene was surprised to find that the bed in the guest room had already been made with fresh and comfortable clean clothes, a large simple T–shirt, and a pair of shorts.
The nanny knocked on the doar and walked in, smiling at Arlene.“Ms, Hurley, these clothes belong to Mr. Stevenson’s niece. She stayed here for a few days recently and the clothes are new and have been washed. Please don’t mind.”
Arlene quickly waved her hand. It’s not that I don’t mind… I’m just afraid I’ll get dirty…”
No worries, she has plenty of clothes. This set is for you,” the nanny said with a smile, placing the hot cocoa in front of Arlene before leaving.
Arlene put on her clothes, looked down at herself, her legs were long and white, but the shorts exposed the bruises on her legs, as well as the marks left by the bandages from the previous car accident… it was really a sight to behold.
After hesitating for a long time, Arlene finally blow–dried her hair and walked out.
Albert was waiting for her in the living room, it seemed like he was on the phone with someone.
Arlene hid behind the wall, afraid to disturb Albert making a phone call.

Albert saw her, hung up the phone and picked up the prenuptial agreement. Wanna talk?”
Arlene nodded and walked up to Albert. You can tell me Mr. Stevenson’s terms.”
Albert put the agreement on the table. “Marry me, stay married for three to five years, can’t divorce before my grandfather’s death, no need to fulfill marital duties, keep the marriage secret, play the role of a good daughter–in–law. This is my supplementary card, you can use it freely during the marriage. After divorce, the property in Seattle belongs to you. All other conditions are written in the contract.”
Arlene looked at Albert in surprise. He didn’t seem to be talking about marriage, but more like discussing a partnership, a job.
However… the conditions were so generous that it shocked her.
How come she suddenly got lucky like this?
Husband was just a decoration, using the supplementary card freely, and still got a house after divorce?
That studying abroad thing…” Arlene wanted to ask about studying abroad for further education.
She admitted that the conditions were very generous, but compared to enriching herself, they weren’t very attractive to Arlene.
There will always be a day when money runs out, but her own abilities are the foundation for her to stand firm in this society after leaving Brendan and. got
be bullied by others.
Albert looked up at Arlene, lost in thought.
When he mentioned the conditions, Arlene wasn’t very excited. Instead, she lit up when talking about studying abroad.
“I can sponsor you to study abroad, but there are some things I need to make clear in advance,” Albert looked at Arlene and spoke again. “The reason I need a secret marriage is because I only need to give my grandfather an explanation.”
Arlene probably understood why Albert chose her, a nobody orphan with no background, to agree to a marriage contract, because a marriage of equals would make it very difficult for him to divorce in the future. Besides, he didn’t marry for love, but out of duty to his grandfather.
For orphans like Arlene who have no parents, they are the easiest to control and cause the least trouble.
And Albert thought he had offered Arlene a pretty good deal, so he wasn’t worried at all that she might cause any trouble in the future.
I chose you because that day at the club, as Brendan’s assistant, your patience and attentiveness were exactly the type of daughter–in–law my grandfather would like. And also because you rejected me several times, I personally think you are not a greedy person. But if you want to study abroad, I hope you can wait until my grandfather passes away, after we divorce.”
Albert looked at Arlene and shrugged apologetically.
He set a clear price, what he wanted was the emotional value Arlene provided for his grandfather.
Studying abroad, that kind of long–distance relationship thing, can’t be done during a marriage.
Arlene’s eyes showed a hint of disappointment. Applying to study abroad in her senior year was the best timing and age. If she chose to give up now, three to five years later… all the opportunities and stages could change at any time. She didn’t want to miss this chance to move up.

‘Sorry Mr. Stevenson… Arlene regretted that she preferred seizing the current opportunity and Albert’s wife with a thirty million annual salary.
‘No need to rush to reject, except for studying abroad during the marriage, other conditions again in a week, Albert spoke again.

You can tell that Albert was very satisfied with Arlene, that’s why he kept giving her chances
Arlene stood there without saying a word. She had already made her decision. If Albert’s plan doesn’t work out, she’ll just have to apply for a study abroad spot and work even harder to save up for tuition.
“Um sorry to bother Mr. Stevenson… I’ll just go now, thanks for the cold medicine, and this outfit…” Arlene looked down at her clothes.
“You….” Albert’s gaze fell on Arlene’s long and straight legs, the shocking bruises and purples were eye–catching.
“Not long ago there was a little car accident,” Arlene quickly explained.“It was just a bump from the accident.”
Albert didn’t ask any more questions.“It’s very late, it’s not safe for you to go out like this, I’ll have my assistant take you.”
Arlene originally wanted to refuse, but when she saw that Albert had already called his assistant, she didn’t refuse anymore.

Brendan parked the car downstairs, checked the time, and called Arlene, but no one answered the phone.
Rubbing his forehead, Brendan realized he had gone a bit overboard today and thought about getting something to cheer up Arlene on the way.
Just as I was about to get off the car, I saw a black Maybach parked downstairs. Arlene got out of the car, bowed to the driver, and limped upstairs.
Brendan’s face fell instantly, “Where did she go so late?”
