Frederick’s fist froze just inches from the family doctor’s face. All at once, he realized there was no point in landing the blow.
His eyes brimmed with unshed tears as he rose to his feet.
“Yeah. I didn’t look into it because I was a fool. So, maybe we all deserve to die,” he muttered.
From that day on, Frederick never left my side.
He wasn’t religious, but he still prayed desperately. He even climbed a mountain just to retrieve a token from a chapel, hoping I might regain
consciousness.
But I stayed in a coma with no sign of waking.
Worse still, my organs began to fail. Frederick brought in specialist after specialist, yet none of them could save me.
In the end, I died in his arms.
At my funeral, Frederick wept like a child. Only then did he realize he had loved me–the headstrong woman, full of life.
Unfortunately, it was far too late. By then, he had to bury the woman he loved.
