Chapter 10 A Peculiar Fragrance
Zevan was still grappling with his growing, unexpected interest in his newlywed wife.

Logically, he should have remained indifferent toward her. After all, she had been sent to marry him as part of an arrangement. The fact that he allowed her to sit at his dinner table and share a meal with him was already a rare gesture on his part.
It was clear that Dorothy had taken a liking to Minerva, especially after seeing the blood on the white handkerchief, which only seemed to further reinforce her fondness for the woman.
After breakfast, Dorothy turned to Minerva with a warm smile, “Minerva, do you plan on going out later?”
Minerva nodded “Grandma, my stepmother called this morning. She wants me to visit home.”
Dorothy’s brows furrowed slightly, but she nodded politely nonetheless.
She then turned to Zevan, saying, “Since Minerva will be going back, remember to bring a gift.”

Zevan’s expression immediately darkened. Does the Somerville family not understand that Minerva is now my wife? If they want to see her, they should be the ones visiting her, not calling her so early in the morning and demanding the come to them. This newlywed wife mine is truly naive. She doesn’t even realize how to use her position as the wife of a mafia boss to turn the tables on those who have wronged
her
But since Minerva had already agreed to go back, he couldn’t exactly forbid her in front of his grandmother. After all, he had to help maintain her dignity.
Minerva glanced at Zevan, sensing the tension in his brooding expression. She considered shaking her head and declining his offer to go back together, but her intuition told her that if she refused to let him accompany her to the Somerville Manor, he would become furious.
The two of them made their way to the lawn, leaving the Twilight Villa. The chauffeur stood ready, prepared to serve Zevan at a moment’s notice. Zevan, always the gentleman, opened the back door of the car. “Get in,” he instructed.
Minerva hesitated, unsure of how to respond. After a brief pause, she finally spoke up. “I think I can manage on my own. I don’t want to take up your time.”
Zevan raised an eyebrow. “You really think that once we step out of here, Grandma won’t know everything we do? We need to act like a normal newlywed couple. It’s only when we’re behind closed doors that we don’t have to put on a show.”
Minerva studied Zevah with a perplexed expression. He was a man who held a deep respect for his family, yet outside of this, he was the cold, ruthless mafia boss.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Zevan said. “I can tell what you’re thinking. You’re wondering why a mafia boss would care so much about family. You probably expect me to be nothing but ruthless, cold–hearted, inside and out
Minerva’s heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t expected him to be so perceptive, to see straight through her unspoken thoughts.
“I…” Minerva tried to explain but didn’t know how to start.
With a sigh of resignation, she shrugged, deciding to remain silent instead. Obediently, she slid into the car and took her seat
in the back.
The luxury car glided down the road, and both Minerva and Zevan fell into an uneasy silence. To avoid awkwardness, Minerva turned her face towards the window, her gaze fixed on the passing scenery. The polished surface of the car window reflected Zevan’s silhouette; he was on his phone, seemingly dealing with work matters.
When Minerva noticed the expensive steel watch on his sturdy wrist, she recognized its worth–tens of millions. Zevan had carefully concealed his true identity, ensuring that even those who encountered him in person would never connect his refined appearance with his real persona. Who would suspect that this handsome, elegant nobleman could also be the ruthless and cold–hearted mafia boss?
Minerva was dying to ask why, but she knew she wasn’t in a position to press further.
