“Oh, sir, didn’t Hazel tell you! The Somerville family has a large, ferocious wolfdog… and I just sprayed you with something that drives dogs absolutely mad.” Her tone was sweet, almost playful, but the words carried a sinister edge.
Quincy’s expression shifted from smug confidence to wide–eyed alarm. His heart began to race as her words sank in. Captivated as he had been by her beauty, he quickly realized that this wasn’t going to end the way he’d imagined. A rabid dog could easily kill an adult.
D’mn it. This girl isn’t fazed by my charm!

“Sweetheart, calm down.” Quincy’s voice quivered, desperation lacing every word. “I want to say that I like you. I was smitten with you at first sight… From the day of your wedding. I’ve been helplessly in love with you.”
Minerva’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. “Really? You fell for me at first sight, yet you conspired with my stepmother to frame me. Don’t think I’m clueless about your little scheme. You want to brand me as a loose woman, spread rumors, and let the mafia boss execute me, isn’t that right?”
Quincy shook his head frantically. “No! I never thought of it that way…. Please, let me go! If that rabid dog comes for me. I could die! You can’t be so heartless, darling.” His voice cracked with pleading, cold sweat dripping from his brow. If he hadn’t been paralyzed, he would’ve dropped to his knees before her.
“Heartless? Me?” Minerva arched a brow, tilting her head as if contemplating the accusation. After a brief pause, she sauntered to the door and pulled it open. The massive wolfdog, its keen nose catching the scent sprayed on Quincy, bounded into the room without hesitation.
“Argh!”
Quincy’s agonized screams filled the room.
Hazel paced nervously in the living room, eagerly awaiting good news. Suddenly, the door to the upstairs room slammed open with a loud bang. Quincy stumbled out, clutching his pants, disheveled and utterly miserable as he scurried down the
stairs.
Startled, Hazel asked, “Quincy! What happened? Why do you look like this?”
Quincy shot her a murderous glare, his eyes burning with fury. “Hazel, you tricked me! You and that little minx played me for a fool! Our deal is off!”
Without giving her a chance to respond, Quincy stormed out, filled with a mixture of resentment and fear.
What happened?
Hazel quickly ascended the stairs.
Minerva was sitting calmly in a chair, sipping her coffee. Her eyes, bright and clear, met Hazel’s gaze. “Oh, Hazel, you’re here?” Minerva asked with a casual smile.
Minerva had been waiting for her all along.
Hazel stood there in stunned silence, her mind scrambling. She couldn’t fathom how her plan had been uncovered. But that’s impossible. Minerva ate the gumbo right in front of me. What went wrong?
“Minerva, you knew something was off with that soup from the start! You played along!” Hazel spat, her anger rising. She had clearly underestimated this woman.
Minerva’s lips curled into a cold smirk. “I wanted to see just how low you’d go with your schemes. And, as expected, you didn’t disappoint”
Hazel’s composure shattered. She scoffed, her eyes flashing with malice. “You little minx! You intentionally seduced my brother! Now I’ll have you pay for it! I’ll capture you and have you apologize to the mafia boss! Guards!”
“Yes, Mrs. Somerville!” Several burly bodyguards in black appeared, their heavy footsteps echoing through the room.

cruel, malicious creature who truly deserved to meet her end.
“Go, seize her!” Hazel barked.
At her command, a bodyguard lunged forward, attempting to grab Minerva.
Minerva’s hand subtly shifted to her waist, ready to take swift action.

In the next instant, a strong hand shot out, seizing the bodyguard’s wrist with effortless precision. With a sharp snap, the bodyguard’s hand was twisted and broken. A forceful push sent him stumbling backward, knocking several others to the ground.
Minerva’s gaze shot upward, her eyes meeting the tall, imposing figure who had just entered. It was Zevan.
“What are you doing here?” Minerva asked, her voice tinged with surprise.
Zevan’s expression remained neutral, his deep voice resonating, “It seems I missed quite the show.”
