Chapter 23
The next day, across from Isabella’s apartment, a long–vacant apartment welcomed new tenants.
James was like a paranoid stalker, keeping watch day and night, trying to find any opportunity to get close to Isabella.
Isabella ignored him, still leaving early and returning late, with a cold and indifferent expression.
The showdown between the two men began in silence.
One night, Bradley went downstairs to take out the trash, and James appeared in front of him like a ghost, with a sinister look in his eyes.
“Mr. Jewsbury’s injury, I think, has healed almost completely.”
James’s voice was icy, “Isn’t it time for you to move out of someone else’s house too?”

Bradley’s lips curled into a faint smile, with a hint of deliberate provocation: “Mr. Keane, are you so concerned about my injury?”
He paused for a moment and said slowly, “Isabella said that the public security in London is not very good. I have a patient staying outside, and she is worried.”
“She doesn’t trust me? James laughed as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world, then laughed in anger, “She is my wife!””
“My ex–wife who didn’t have a marriage certificate, Bradley corrected lightly.”

Each word cuts to the heart.
James was instantly speechless.
His fist clenched, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.

Just then, Isabella walked out of the apartment and saw the two people facing each other, furrowing her brow.
“James, her voice was cold, devoid of any warmth, “What are you doing here?“”
“Please leave.”
James watched her taking care of Bradley, and his heart felt like it had been hit hard by a heavy hammer, the dull pain unbearable.
He suddenly felt a little discouraged, all the pride and arrogance, at this moment, seemed a bit unsustainable.
“Okay, he said hoarsely, “I know I was wrong.
“I apologized to you, I compensated you, shall we go home, back to Washington?”
“I will give you a grand wedding, grander than anyone else’s, we will get married, and I will introduce your existence to the whole world, Isabella said with a short, scornful laugh, as if mocking his naivety and also mocking her past self.”
“James, do you think it still makes sense to say these things now?”
“Go home? she repeated the words, her tone laced with icy sarcasm. “Which home? Your home, or my grave?“”
James’s face turned pale, his lips quivering, but he couldn’t utter a single

Isabella no longer looked at him, turned to Bradley and said, “Chief, let’s go, the operation is about to begin.”
Bradley nodded and left alongside her.
James stood rooted to the spot, until their figures disappeared around the
street corner.
Action? What action?
He suddenly remembered the incident that Gerardo reported about The Keane Group being hacked.
A ridiculous yet highly possible idea suddenly popped into his mind.
He quickly caught up, following from a distance, until he saw Isabella and Bradley enter a heavily guarded building.
Through the glass of the building, he could vaguely see a huge electronic screen, on which was displayed the structure of his company’s internal network, the Keane Group, as well as the red code representing the hacker that was being tracked.
Originally, the network hackers that Isabella and Bradley were trying to catch had targeted his company,
James stopped Isabella again on a dusk evening.
He leaned against the Bugatti, deliberately creating a gentle atmosphere.
“Isabella.”
He spoke with a slightly hoarse voice.
“This time… Thank you.”
Isabella stopped in her tracks, her cold gaze falling on him as if appraising an insignificant object.
“What do I thank you for?”
The sound was calm and peaceful.
“Thank me for capturing the hacker who attacked your company? That was just my duty, Mr. Keane.”
James choked for a moment, his handsome face unable to hide the embarrassment.
“I treated you to a meal, as a way of… showing my gratitude.”
He tried to regain some sense of control, but his tone unconsciously lowered. Isabella glanced away, “No need.”
Two words, clean and neat.
A hint of hurt flashed in James’s eyes, then was quickly overshadowed by a deeper paranoia.
He took a step closer to her, his voice lowered to a whisper, unable to help but pleading, “Isabella, give me a chance to make amends, okay?”
Isabella looked at him quietly, her eyes, once filled with love, now only a frozen lake.
After a while, she sneered, “Atonement?”
She repeated softly, with a hint of playfulness in her tone.
“Okay.”
