Chapter 24 His Rumored Girlfriend
Sienna thought, Isn’t it just apologizing to Ethan? As long as it keeps the deal going, I’ll apologize. If I just swallow my pride, Ethan probably won’t hold a grudge against me.
On the other side, after Chadwick hung up the phone, his assistant handed him the gathered information.
“Ethan did this on purpose, most likely to defend his rumored girlfriend.”
“Rumored girlfriend?” Chadwick took the paper and, upon seeing Eleanor’s information, his face darkened.
“This woman, Eleanor, has quite the tactics.”
Not only was she Gabriel’s wife, but she also had a complicated relationship with Ethan.
It was troubling that his naive daughter had offended her.
It seemed Ethan was doing this to take revenge for her.
Chadwick lit a cigar and took a deep drag.
“Bring this woman to me, but remember, no violence.”
Eleanor spent the whole day searching through Margaret’s belongings and finally found a small box.
She opened it to find a thin, gauze handkerchief and two strands of hair wrapped in paper.
Margaret had been meticulous, perhaps anticipating that one day her family might come looking for her. Margaret hadn’t missed anything, including the hair that had once been attached to her.
Eleanor picked up the hair, holding it up to the sunlight. It was long, slightly yellowish.
This was probably a woman’s hair.
The handkerchief was thin and small, almost as if it had been grabbed on a whim.
In the cold winter, this was her only companion. If Margaret hadn’t saved her in time, she would have long been dead.
Eleanor’s eyes dried as her heart twisted painfully.
Did the people who abandoned me really want me to die? Why? Why did they do this to me?

Inside the box was a letter, detailing the circumstances of when Margaret had found her.
Margaret wasn’t highly educated, but to protect her privacy, she hadn’t hired anyone to write the letter. Instead, she had used
a dictionary to carefully document every detail of the moment she had found Eleanor.
Perhaps Margaret had already foreseen that she might leave, so she had done everything she could to preserve all the information from that time.
It was all Margaret’s painstaking effort.
Eleanor trembled as she placed the handkerchief back in the box. After taking a moment to steady herself, she hugged the box and walked out.
The midday sun was blinding, and the early autumn heat still lingered.
As Eleanor was about to search for directions on her phone, she noticed a message from Ethan. “Are you free? My dad wants to meet you.”
Ethan seemed happy, adding a string of emojis after the message.
Mr. Hudson wants to meet me?

Eleanor raised an eyebrow, wondering what Ethan had said to Hudson to make him want to meet her.
But she had promised Oscar to stay away from Ethan.
She was trying to come up with an excuse to refuse…
As she pondered, Eleanor looked up and ran into several men in black suits.
her.
The men in black suits walked quickly toward her as soon as they saw he
“Are you Ms. Weston?” The man speaking wore sunglasses and had his sleeves rolled up, showing off his strong physique. “Our general manager would like to invite you for coffee.”
General manager?
Eleanor sized them up. The men were big, tall, and looked like bodyguards.
When he mentioned the general manager, Eleanor immediately thought of Hudson.
Just as she was about to refuse, the bodyguards made a gesture inviting her, their expressions serious and their gazes fierce.
It was as if, should she say no, they would immediately kidnap her.
“Ms. Weston, you don’t need to worry. Our general manager just wants to invite you for coffee, nothing more,” the bodyguard wearing sunglasses repeated patiently.
Hudson was the head of the Xander family. He shouldn’t make things difficult for her.
Eleanor thought for a few seconds and nodded, “Okay, lead the way.”
The bodyguards led her to a black car. One of them exchanged a glance with the other before quickly shutting the door.
