Chapter 5
I set Hayden’s suggestion aside for the time being. For now, what I needed was to sort through my jumbled thoughts. After packing my luggage, I left the home I had lived in for over a decade and boarded a plane bound for Wismuth. As I was boarding, I saw a familiar figure once again. When he noticed that I had seen him, he took off his sunglasses.
“Were you following me?” I asked.
Hayden smiled and replied, “I suddenly felt like taking a trip to Wismuth.”
I gave a small smile in response but didn’t call him out.
As we walked side by side, our hands brushed repeatedly. Finally, they clasped together.
But all I wanted at that moment was some comfort and nothing more.
After boarding, unsurprisingly, Hayden and I sat together.
I had thought that the nervousness of being with an old flame once more would keep me awake. But when I opened my eyes, I found myself leaning against Hayden’s shoulder.
“Sorry, I must’ve been sleeping too soundly,” I said apologetically.
Hayden shook his head. But when he

Hayden nodded. “I just didn’t want to see you struggle so much.”
I said with a sigh, “You’re still the same. You always do things but never take the credit. The sudden marrow donor who was a match with Scott was your doing too, wasn’t it?”

That was how he had always been. He worked in the shadows silently but never told anyone younger, I used to get so frustrated by how tight–lipped he was.

Looking back now, I thought we had been quite fortunate during our youth. We had so many chances to fight and make up.
We broke up because the endless arguments left us exhausted. Coincidentally, Hayden was about to go abroad back then as well. The long–distance relationship was the final straw.
After the breakup, it took me a long time to move on. Then, I never bothered to update myself about how Hayden was doing
or what he was up to.
I never imagined that after so many years, fate would bring us together again.
I had chosen Wismuth as my getaway because it was a place I had always wanted to visit.
When I married Theodore, he had promised we’d go there for our honeymoon. But after the wedding, Theodore’s mother fell ill, and I had to put aside my work to care for her at her bedside.
Theodore always said he’d help me after work, but in truth, he rarely came by. And when he did, he hardly stayed long
I was completely worn out and had no time to remember the promises he’d once made,
Over the years, I worked hard for my family. I was busy earning money, raising a child, and managing the household. In short,
I was busy being the ideal wife and mother by society’s standards.
But I never once thought to look up at the sky.

The moment I stepped off the plane, I was captivated by the clear sky in Wismuth. That shade of pure blue was unbelievable to look at. The fluffy white clouds hanging gently along the horizon accentuated its beauty even more.
From a distance came the exotic singing of the indigenous people of the land. Everything felt so serene and beautiful.
Hayden reached out his hand to me. “Come on. Let’s go take a look around.”
