Chapter 15
Lucian admitted himself to a mental hospital.
To make up for his wrongs and seek forgiveness from Raina, he found someone to beat and hurt him daily, trying to match her pain.
After a week without seeing him, he looked much older, his hair completely gray.
He kept whispering Raina’s name, desperate to find her.
I thought he was ridiculous. Raina had suffered far worse than him.
To her adoptive parents, Raina was redundant.
Her biological parents had made her the ‘elder sister‘ to take care of Elaine, even though Raina was the younger one.
At the special training school, she wasn’t fed properly and was beaten constantly.
In her life, Raina had to watch her supportive friend die in front of her, endure the pain of being hurt by her lover, and face the fact that her parents didn’t love her.
How could Lucian’s suffering even compare to hers?
When I got back to the Simpson’s residence, my parents and Elaine were waiting for me in the living room.
I said sarcastically, “Are you not worried that I’m a murderer?”

Since my parents found out from Juliet that I killed my adoptive parents in self–defense, they had been avoiding me.
My father said flatteringly, “No, no, you’re our real daughter. How could we be afraid?”
My mother nervously added, “Raina, Lucian’s in a mental hospital. Can
we let Elaine come back?”
I raised an eyebrow. “Why should I? She’s not related to me by blood.
“I’m the head of the Ferguson Group now. She can come back–unless
she’s dead.”
Elaine wanted to yell at me, but she held herself back.
I added, “If I catch her sneaking back, you two will die with her.”
Elaine’s expression shifted, and she took her anger out on my parents. “It’s all your fault! Now I’m stuck in that small village for the rest of my
life!”
“Elaine, wait for us!”
They rushed after her.
At dinner, I got a call from the police.
Elaine argued with my parents over how they raised her badly.
In a fit of anger, she grabbed a kitchen knife and killed my mother. But as she chased my father, she tripped and accidentally stabbed herself in
the aorta.
I went to the hospital to pick up my father.

He lay there with bandages, looking at me with a satisfied smile. “The real daughter is always the best. Those not related by blood are ungrateful and can’t be controlled.”
I smiled and placed his empty cup on the bedside table. “Good night, Dad.”
