Chapter 5
Lucian kept his word about using his card freely, but that person wasn’t
- me.
After a shopping trip, Elaine bounced into the house.
Lucian came in behind her, holding a bunch of shopping bags. “Slow down. Be careful not to trip.”
My gaze dropped.
When he saw me standing by the stairs, his smile faded, and things felt a little awkward.
Elaine seemed unaware and grabbed my hand. “Raina, look! Lucian bought me so many pretty dresses. I told him not to, but he still insisted.”
I stayed quiet and lowered my eyes.
“You don’t have any clothes, Raina. Come try on the new ones with
me.”
Elaine, who was stronger, dragged me toward the room.
Lucian followed and set down the bags, saying to me, “Elaine has a good heart. Try to get along with her.”
“Alright, leave us alone. We’re changing,” Elaine said shyly, pushing
him out.
As soon as the door shut, her expression shifted.

She glanced at me coldly and locked the door.
Sensing danger, I stepped back quickly.
Elaine lunged and yanked my hair. “Why didn’t you die in there? Looks like they went too easy on you.”
Pain shot through my scalp, and I started trembling. Still, I clenched my teeth. “How do you know about that?”
Elaine smirked. “Idiot. I picked that school just for you. Your parents and Lucian trust me completely.”
My expression darkened.
She wrapped a hand around my neck. “I didn’t expect you’d still be alive. You’re tougher than I thought.”
I wanted to speak, but no words came out.
The pressure on my throat and the memories it triggered made me feel like I was drowning.
Right before I passed out, Elaine let go of me.
I gasped for air.
Leaning close, she whispered, “Stay in there forever. Don’t even dream of taking anything from me.”
Before I could respond, she shoved me aside and ruffled her hair.
Then, she grabbed a glass vase nearby, hurled it to the floor, and collapsed onto the shards, forcing her arm down.

Chapter 5
My vision blurred as blood spread across the ground, and a wave of dizziness hit me.
I heard Lucian’s footsteps rushing toward the room.
The doorknob shook wildly. “Elaine, what happened?”
Elaine shot me a smug glance and began to cry. “Lucian, help me…‘
་་
Realizing the door was locked, Lucian pounded on it in panic. “Raina, open the door!”
