Chapter 6
“Raina!”
My head spun, and I barely managed to stand by gripping the table. I mumbled, “Kate… Don’t leave me…”
With a loud crash, the door burst open.
When Lucian stepped in and took in the scene, his pupils shrank, and he slapped me in anger.
I hit the floor hard, catching myself with my hands. Sharp bits of glass dug into my skin.
Without saying much, Lucian scooped up Elaine, glared at me, and said something.
But my ears were ringing too loudly to hear anything.
He walked out with Elaine in his arms.
I huddled in the corner, trembling. “Don’t hit Kate… Hit me… Kate is pregnant… She’ll die…”
When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed with a drip in my hand feeding me glucose.
Lucian came in, his face distant. “Elaine has depression now. Are you
satisfied?”
I dropped my gaze and clenched my hands. “I never did anything to her.”

He looked irritated. “Still denying it? If it weren’t for you, how would Elaine end up like this?”
Before I could respond, a nurse walked in. “Mr. Ferguson, Ms. Simpson is awake. She wants to see you.”
“Alright.”
Lucian gave me one last disappointed glance and turned to leave.
I stared at his back and asked hoarsely, “If you go, you’ll lose me forever. Are you okay with that?”
“You brought this upon yourself.”
Lucian assumed I was just being difficult and walked out without hesitation.
I quietly watched him disappear.
Later, I opened my phone and saw a saved note that read, “Forgive him. Give him another chance.”
I deleted it without a second thought.
He already had a chance, but he wasted it.
I was done pretending.
