Chapter 20
Since Ashion was coming over, I decided not to go to the hospital. Instead, I applied the ointment to my ankle, gritting my teeth as cold sweat covered my forehead from the pain.
Waiting for Ashton was a little boring, so I pulled out my phone and scrolled through Twinter. Coincidentally, I came across a post from Tamara
She had uploaded a photo of Harlan, focused on peeling shrimp. His face was filled with a gentle smile, making it nearly impossible to connect him to the madman from this afternoon.
Thinking about it, I touched my neck. My fingertips immediately brushed against a distinct bite mark on my skin, still stinging slightly upon
CONURL
I was sure it had broken my skin
Damn it
Harlan was as crazy as a rabid
dog
Frustrated. I rummaged through my drawers to find a bandage and carefully covered the mark in front of the mirror.
Just as I finished, the doorbell rang
I hopped on one foot to open the door. Ashton stood outside, carrying bags of food, and greeted me with a cheerful smile. “Tonight, we should
Before he could finish his sentence, his gaze landed on my injured ankle. His brows furrowed instantly as he asked, “What happened to your ankle?
My lone was casual. Just a sprain; no big deal.”
“That’s not no big deal,” he said firmly, setting the food
od down on the table before walking over to me, “Let me take you to the hospital.”
His serious expression, combined with the throbbing pain in my ankle, left me with no reason to argue
Seeing how much trouble I had walking, he crouched down slightly. “Tll give you a piggyback”
I hesitated for a moment but didn’t refuse. Walking by myself was truly too difficult at this point.
He carried me to the car. Just as I settled into the seat, I noticed a figure in my peripheral vision, which looked vaguely familiar. Instinctively, I tumed my head to look out the window, but there was nothing there
I frowned slightly. Was I just seeing things?
At the hospital, after registering. I had my ankle examined. The doctor reviewed the X–rays and confirmed that my ligament was tom. I needed to minimize movement for the time being.
I nodded, picked up my medication, and prepared to head home with Ashton
Halfway through the drive, he suddenly suggested, “It’s getting late. Let’s eat out first.”
I chuckled. “Wouldn’t that make all the dishes you brought over go to waste!”
“No. You can have them as midnight snacks,” he said.
Since he had already made up his mind, I didn’t argue. I just found it amusing that I wouldn’t have to cook for the next two days.
After dinner, Ashton drove me home. As always, he was incredibly considerate, parking right by my door and carefully helping me upstairs.
Once I was settled on the couch, he said, I be negotiating some
some details with Lunaris Corporation for the next few days. Let’s go to work together. Tomorrow–ll drive you”
I immediately refused. “No need. I’ll just call a cala!
Ashton smiled faintly. “Don’t you see me as a friend anymore! Bealdes, you’re sinuggling to get around on your own
karw home stubborn he could be. Even if I refused tonight, he’d still show up at my door tomorrow.
Resigned, I sighed. “Alright, thanks. I’ll splin the gas money with you”
He raised an eyebrow as he let out a short laugh. “Charlene, who do you take me for You think I care about a few bucks for gas?”
Hic reaction made me chuckle, and my mood unexpectedly lightened.
He stayed a late longer, chatting with me before finally heading out
