The elevator stopped on the first floor, and we ran into Olivia who had just gone to pick up a package.
The moment Olivia entered, I let go of Noah’s hand.
It was fine in front of others.
But in front of Olivia, I always felt a bit awkward about the fact that I had gotten together with her brother.
Fortunately, Noah just quietly looked at me once, then started chatting with Olivia about other things.
I chimed in occasionally.
As we were talking, Olivia pushed Noah aside and showed me some gossip on her phone.

Noah suddenly spoke up: “Sis.”
“What?” Olivia asked impatiently.
Noah: “How did you know I just spent $9 today?”
Olivia was confused: “What $9?”
Thinking of the little red booklet Noah had “accidentally” dropped earlier, I sensed trouble and was about to interrupt-
Noah had already taken out the marriage certificate.
He examined it closely under the elevator light, completely attracting Olivia’s attention.
I covered my face.
I heard Olivia’s shocked cry: “You two got married?!”
With a “ding“, the elevator stopped.
The elevator doors opened, and outside stood Noah’s parents, arm in arm, about to go out.
The five of us looked at each other, at a loss for words.
Finally, Noah’s gentle mother broke the silence: “Who got married to whom?”
An hour later, Noah’s parents escorted him to my parents‘ home to apologize.
First, they expressed their regret for Noah’s rash action without prior consultation.
Then Noah explained his sincere feelings and even listed out his assets, willing to sign a prenuptial agreement with me.
During this process, he swore that if he was ever unfaithful, he would leave the marriage with nothing and be impotent for the rest of his life, taking a harsh dig at Alexander.
My parents were hesitant about his lack of maturity and youthful impulsiveness.
Olivia repeatedly praised him as having the pure heart of a researcher.
Out of trust in the Xie family’s upright character, and the fact that they had watched Noah grow up…
Most importantly, Noah and I were already married.
In the end, my parents respected my decision and started discussing the wedding date with Noah’s parents.
I said there was no need.
I wanted to have a destination wedding.
It wasn’t that I had developed a psychological aversion to ceremonies, I just felt that trying something new might not be a bad idea.
Noah simply said okay.
Later I found out that to get time off from his research institute, he had agreed to be an assistant to his senior colleague for half a year.
The day we set off was a bright, sunny day.
Noah said that by the time we reached our destination, the sunrise would surely be beautiful too.
I was dozing off in the passenger seat when I felt him turn up the temperature in the car and gently drape a coat over me.
In my hazy consciousness, I seemed to hear him ask if I would regret this.
I don’t know if I’ll regret it or not.
