The driver’s side door slammed shut with a resounding bang. Felix stormed around the front
of the car and stood right in front of me.
He sized Oscar up, furrowing his brows. “Who is he?”
Oscar was young and muscular. His broad shoulders, trim waist, and long legs made him seem the epitome of vitality, radiating a fresh and energetic aura.
When they stood side by side, I realized that compared to Oscar, Felix was truly an unappealing middle–aged man.
I couldn’t help but laugh.
As if he could read my mind, Oscar even winked at me.
To onlookers, we probably looked like we were flirting.
“Hailey, who is he?”
Felix raised his voice, his face etched with anger.
Oscar smiled and casually draped his arm over my shoulder, creating the impression that
he was drawing me close.
“I’m Oscar Wellington, a friend of Hailey’s. Hailey, is this your friend? Are he and his girlfriend going out for a meal?”
Oscar’s words made Felix flinch. Felix quickly explained, “Don’t talk nonsense. Debra is just my friend, not my girlfriend.”
Oscar chuckled with a clear conscience and admitted his mistake promptly. “Oh, my bad.
Usually, the front passenger seat is reserved for one’s wife or girlfriend. So she’s not your girlfriend
after all.”
Debra’s smile froze on her face.
Then Oscar leaned down and whispered in my ear, “Hailey, I’m definitely a paragon of a good man. My front passenger seat will definitely be reserved for my wife.”
Felix was as embarrassed as if he had been slapped in the face. He roughly yanked me
towards him.
“Hailey, how come I’ve never met this guy before?*
I cast an icy glance at him. “Well, now you have. He’s my good friend, Oscar Wellington.”
Felix’s words got stuck in his throat, leaving him feeling highly uncomfortable.
He was familiar with the term ‘good friend“.
He glared at Oscar with undisguised hostility. Then, he extended his hand, putting on a show of gentlemanliness, though it was clear he was trying to assert his relationship with me. “Hello I’m Hailey’s husband.”
Oscar, as if he’d heard the most absurd thing, let out a soft, mocking chuckle.
He looked at Felix’s outstretched hand and pointedly ignored it.

Instead, Oscar briskly walked over and opened the rear car door. Turning back to me, he
beamed widely.
“Hailey, get in the car. What a stroke of luck running into Mr. Hastings! Let’s catch a ride.”
Oscar simply turned a deaf ear to Felix’s statement that he was my husband.
Just as I was about to get in, Felix grabbed my arm and growled through gritted teeth, “Honey, this is inappropriate, isn’t it?”
Plainly, he was dead–set against me sitting beside Oscar.
I raised my eyebrows and fixed my eyes on Debra in the front passenger seat. “What? Are we interrupting your date?”
Your “good friend” was already seated in the passenger seat!
And she showed no intention of vacating it.
Felix hastily explained, “Don’t misunderstand. Debra’s cat is about to give birth, and I need to
help with the delivery.”
I patted his shoulder and praised him sarcastically. “So you’ve switched to being a vet? You’re really something.”
Before he could utter a word in response, I promptly got into the back seat of the car.
Oscar gave Felix a thumbs–up.
“Oh, so you’re a vet! I have a male dog at home. I’ve been thinking about getting him neutered recently. Mr. Hastings, could you please do me a favor? Otherwise, that d*mn dog is constantly in heat, chasing after every female dog he sees.”
With that, Oscar climbed into the car with a grin and closed the door.
Felix’s face turned sullen.
He got into the car and slammed the door with a thud.
I couldn’t have cared less. After all, if the door got damaged, it wasn’t my concern to pay for
the repairs.
“We’re going to Amorous Bites on Pineview Street. Drive smoothly, or Hailey will get dizzy. Thanks!” Oscar ordered naturally, as if Felix was his driver.
From my seat in the back, I could distinctly hear Felix’s knuckles clattering as he tightly gripped the steering wheel.
Debra leaned towards him. “Felix, fasten your seatbelt.”
What a strange sight!
The person in the passenger seat was fastening the seatbelt for the driver.

Felix peeked in the rearview mirror, guilt written all over his face. Then, he quickly snatched
the seatbelt and buckled it himself.
Debra’s hand froze, and she vented her annoyance on me.
“Amorous Bites? Isn’t it a popular couple’s restaurant these days? Hailey, are you going there
for a meal?”
Debra’s words only stoked Felix’s anger further.
He had intended to take me to this couple’s restaurant earlier, but I refused. Now, I was going
there with another man!
Before Felix could lose his temper, Oscar said, “That restaurant is mine. As the owner, of
course, I need to support my own business!”
Felix likely never imagined that Oscar, who looked like a college student, actually owned a spacious restaurant over ten thousand square feet in the most bustling part of town!
Instantly, the warning bells in his mind started clanging loudly.
He’d assumed Oscar was merely young and good–looking, and in every other regard,
couldn’t hold a candle to himself.
But to his astonishment, Oscar already had his own restaurant in his twenties, while Felix had
been flat broke at that age!
I simply turned a blind eye to Felix’s expression and didn’t bother to spare him a glance.
Oscar continued chatting with me, wearing a wide grin.
“Hailey, do you know who the most frequent customers at my restaurant are?”
“Mostly couples, right?”
Despite never having set foot in the place, I had heard of its reputation.
Oscar, though, wagged his index finger in disagreement. “No! No! No! Genuine couples are in the minority. More often than not, it’s men with their mistresses or one–night stands. Their relationships are far from appropriate.”
Felix couldn’t resist chiming in, “Mr. Wellington, that’s a rather extreme statement, don’t you think?
After all, he’d just told me that he’d been to Amorous Bites with Debra not long ago.
