Chapter 12
The breakfast with Jared went well. It’s new to me considering that I’ve been eating alone for years, and I think it’s not bad to eat with someone starting today. I’m not hoping he’ll come to eat at my place, though. It will be a little troublesome if he’ll do such.
Jared has work to do, so he left right after eating. As for me, I haven’t decided on what to do during my vacation period so I’m staying home to clean and sleep I guess. We bid our goodbyes, just like how old friends do until he turns back to peck on my lips, reminding me he’s my boyfriend. It shouldn’t be a big deal after what we have done, but it’s difficult to get used to him either. I need time to cope.
“So, where should I start?” I look around the house and realize how dusty the sides of the furniture are. I do general cleaning once a week to maintain everything in order but today is different. It’s a big NO to just ignore the lingering dirt.
I prepared the cleaning tools, as well as an apron, to cover my clothes. The apron may not be much of a help but it’s better than washing a shirt filled with dust and stains.
“Okay! I’ll make sure not to leave a single speck of dirt. With that said, I plug my ears with earphones while playing music at maximum volume. “Oh, yeah!”
Cleaning is never boring with upbeat messe. Each beat is an encouragement to finish the chore. Especially when I plan to throw myself on the bed to sleep later once I’m done.
Two hours passed and I’m almost done. The bedroom is the only one left to be cleaned. I walk inside my room and sigh at the plain interior
I’m still young, no? Why do I feel like the person who’s using this bedroom is an old single lady?
I sigh. I’m attentive to Lucas‘ taste while neglecting my needs.
How can I not notice this sooner! Gosh, I even decorated my boss‘ apartment when he bought it. I handled every detail with care and I’m staying at this dull–looking place!
I grab my hair in frustration, pulling it slightly, which actually tickles my scalp. Ah! I should replace the wallpaper and the carpet. Nah, everything in this room needs a makeover.
“I don’t think I can take a nap soon.”
My room surgery is an important task I should finish before lunch. I must do it otherwise, I’ll starve. I have to prepare something to eat too. Argh! ! suddenly want to check if there’s leftover toast from breakfast
“I’m hungry.” My stomach grumbles several times and I still have to change the carpet and bedding Just a little more.”
The walls in my room look better than before with a light–colored floral wallpaper.
It is not an excellent choice, but significantly better than black and white stripes before.
Ugh. I’m not a zebra
The pink and fluffy carpet surprised me It suits well with my peach blanket. I love the printed cherry blossoms on the pillowcases too.
“Wonderfull”
After working hard to transform my bedroom, I deserve a pat so I did on my chest while admiring my artwork. It looks girly but I’m not a boy to begin with so it’s not a big deal. In fact, it’s easier to breathe now that I got rid of the previous design. To finish it up, Ltook some flowers from last night and put them in the vase on my bedside table.
“Perfect”
I’m satisfied with the outcome but exhausted. I’m on the verge of slumping down on the floor and maybe taking a nap, relinquishing my lunch when the doorbell rings.
“Who is it this time?” I sloppily head to the door to check. Ever since I started dating Jared, it looks like I also had a lot of “unexpected‘ visitors. I open the door while still wearing the apron and gloves. “Who’s there?”
Akall young man is standing in front of my door with a courteous smile on his face. He removes his cap, revealing his brown hair, and bows while greeting me. “Good afternoon. I’m looking for Miss Daphne Ambers.”
He’s looking for me? But I don’t know him. I’m about to inquire why he’s looking for me when I notice the bags he’s holding.

“Oh. That’s me.” I watch him smile wider. He’s too good to take it if he’s a bad person but his name tag with a logo of a famous restaurant helps me

realize his identity. “Do you have something to deliver!” I glance at the bag he’s holding. I didn’t order food but I’m really hungry at the moment.
“Yes. Your boyfriend ordered a set of meals for you.”

That Do you have the receipt?” It’s better to be safe. I know Jared can do unexpected things, but I didn’t expect he’ll order lunch for me just right when I need it.
“Yes. Here’s the receipt. And I also need you to sign over here. The delivery guy hands me a

I check the receipt first to make sure when my eyes widen in shock. I know this restaurant is famous, but how can they sell their food at such a high price! I blink again to double check, and I’m not mistaken. I can see 5 digits just for a set of meals. And when I think it’s the food inside the paper bag in the delivery guy’s hand, I feel bad for having Jared spend too much.

“Isn’t this too expensive?” I cover my mouth immediately when I blurt out my thoughts. “Ahem. Em wondering what’s inside that paper bag that costs this much.
I read the name of the dish on the receipt but I don’t have any idea what it is. Probably a foreign disht I’m familiar with French cuisine because Lucas loves it, but it’s hard for me to comprehend the food’s name on this paper,
“Ah. No. Miss Ambers. This one is just a giveaway for being one of the VIP’s today. Your lunch is here.” The delivery guy gestures his hand on the side where a couple of carts are on standby.
I didn’t notice those earlier.
“Oh.. Haha! I didn’t notice. I averted my gaze in embarrassment. What will Jared think when he finds out his girlfriend is an airhead?
The delivery guy just smiled and handed me a pen and tablet. “Please sign right next to your name.”
“Here.” I handed the tablet and pen back after signing. “Uh.. Can you wait for a minute? I’ll just remove my gloves. I only finished cleaning and these gloves, as you can see, are dirty.”
“That’s okay. If you don’t mind letting me in, I will bring the food and set the table for you”
Oh! They’re doing that? I thought he’s only a delivery guy.
It’s like the guy reads my thoughts when he speaks to respond to my astonishment.
“We’re trained to do this specifically when serving VIP customers.
All right. I nod my head at him and open the door wider. “This way, please walk ahead to lead the way to the kitchen and he follows while pushing the cars
I’m glad I cleaned the house.
“You can place them here. I wash my hands first.”
The guy nodded his head and started arranging the foods on the table. I watch for a while and rush to the bathroom to remove my gloves and apron. I wash up and return as soon as I’m done,
“I want to take a shower but I can’t leave a stranger tending to my kitchen for so long” I sigh while wiping my hands with a towel.
The guy was still arranging the food when I came back. He glances at me when he notices my presence. “I’m almost done with everything. Please
wait for a moment.”
I shrug and continue watching him do his job. When it’s completed, he walks towards me and hands me the paper bag. “It is a simple token of appreciation for choosing our restaurant. I hope you’ll like it. And please enjoy your meal.”

The guy bows down again and excuses himself. I walk him to the door. When he’s gone, I lock the door and head back to the kitchen.
“So many…” My mouth waters by just looking at the sumptuous meal in front of me. However, my sweat makes my shirt stick on my skin. I have to

ljusejl to take my time in the shower, but not today. My stomach has been impulsive for a while and it needs to be filled. Cleaning the house drained my energy.
Five minutes later, I’m finally done scrubbing the parts I could reach. I’m not flexible and there’s no way I can reach my back, so I had long given

up on it. I spent three minutes rinsing the soap bubbles and another minute wrapping my hair with a towel. I wear a bathrobe and tightly knot the
bell.
With a victory smile on my face, I ran to the kitchen and took a seat.
“Time to dig in!”
I’m about to take a bite when I remember one thing I shouldn’t forget. Sighing, 1 rise from my chair and walk back to my room to find my phone.
He should eat lunch around this time as well, right?
This will be the first time for me to call him and the second time we will talk on the phone. I clear my throat as I wait for him to pick up the call.
“Hello?” His voice sounds pleasant, as usual.
Jared. I got the hunch you sent.” This isn’t what I wanted to say, but I can’t find the right timing yet.
“Hi, Jan
“Daphne? Oh, I’m glad you did. Did you like it?”
I have eaten none of it just yet. How can I when I have not given my thanks?
“I love it. Thank you for the treat.” The sight of those foods is lovely. “Did you do it in return for treating you to breakfast?”
I can hear Jared humming on the other line. “Yes. My secretary said 1 should treat you too. I can’t come over to cat with you, so I hope you mind. The most important thing is that you have the food I sent you, right?”
Hab. This man is another airhead.
Is it right to say that to your girlfriend, huh? He doesn’t have any romantic cells at all

It’s time, silly! Time is the most important thing in a relationship. If you can’t join me for lunch, you should have to say something like ‘maybe at dinner or maybe next time. But he thinks that food is important.

“Oh. I think I said something incorrectly.” Jared sighs from the other line. “What about having dinner together again, Daphne?”
He changes his response just like that?
“Or maybe I can make some time to spend a meal with you again. What do you think!”
Im almost pleased to hear dat he’s acting like a concerned and apologetic boyfriend until I hear someone else’s voice in the background
What’s worse, it looks like Jared is currently having a tutorial lesson and the topic ist How to act like a boyfriend to your girlfriend.
He needs a daily lesson.
Moreover, why am I so invested in him now?
