Chapter 19
Today’s schedule is almost finished Jared brought me to different stores after we visited the warehouse, I followed his every suggestion, buying a few appliances and furniture for giveaways. Since he said he’ll pay for all of them. I didn’t argue anymore
As far as I can remember, my parents would prepare a free meal for everyone as they gathered to get their share. I really don’t have any idea but wht Jared’s doing isn’t bad either. The purpose is to help the people in need by giving away what we can. And that’s exactly what he’s doing
He’d say he happens to have a lot of spare NEW clothes, EXTRA cash etc whenever he’s suggesting getting this and that He might not say bluntly but Jared is making a happy face while doing all of these. It suddenly feels like he’s more eager to host this event than I. My willingness to help others is sincere while this is to the most extent level.
Well, it’s not bad at all.
“Are you hungry?” Jared tilts his head to my side. I nod my head, mouthing ‘yes‘ “Shall we have lunch!”
“Hmmm. I think that’s nice. Will you treat me this time? We haven’t been together for a long time but talking to him casually isn’t that difficult anymore. I don’t know when exactly I start to feel comfortable around him but it’s better this way compared to when we first conversed after that night. As long as he doesn’t take me by surprise like what he did in the elevator earlier, I’m pretty sure we can get along throughout this relationship.
Jared frowns. “Do you think your boyfriend is a cheapskate? I can buy you lunch everyday even if you don’t ask.”
Heh. I was merely joking. My salary may not be comparable to his but I can also afford to buy him lunch. It’s not like I’m going to buy him one today but just in case we have to pay individually, I don’t mind.
“What Do you think Til let you pay for your food after dating you! I can clearly see what you’re thinking now, Daphne.”
Oops! Am I that obvious? However, when I imagine going out to eat with Lucas in the past, I always thought it would be so gentlemanly if he pays the bill. It will be nice if he cuts the meat for me too.
“We’re here.” Jared’s deep and calm voice brings me back to reality.
Now’s not the time to think of Lucas. What a shame, it’s easy to say but his face would occasionally pop into my head all of a sudden.

I shake my h
head and look outside the car window. My eyes and mouth widened at the same time when I read the name of the restaurant.
How can we just dine in here if one has to reserve a table a week before? Did he reserve a table in advance thinking about bringing me here and dine together? But we just met a few days ago though using his connection could make things easy for him to get us a table here wait
Why am I flastered: Jared must have a lot of connections being the Vice President of Gold Corp. Getting a table reserved in a five star restaurant is trivial for him.. I think.
“Is something wrong! You don’t want to eat here? We can go somewhere else if you want.
“I’m fine. I’m just overwhelmed. Did you happen to also get a reservation here? I think it’s too much of a coincidence considering that we just rivet a few days ago. You need to book a reservation a week before to eat here, right?”
Ah, me and my stupid sense again. I just told myself it’s not impossible for someone like Jared to clear a table for us to eat here.
This kind of set up usually occurs in novels where the male lead surprises the female lead by bringing her to an expensive restaurant. It’s ether the male lead books the entire place to eat alone with his lover or he already arranged a VIP seat for them beforehand. I wonder which category Jared’s tactic falls into
“Ah, that. Actually, I didn’t get a reservation at this place.” Jared scratches his chin and laughs. “I heard that this place is great and since we pass by the area, I thought we could have lunch here.”
What the actual fuck is he saying! He didn’t have any reservation por did he book the entire place and here I am dreaming of being the female lead who’s supposedly surprised on her first date with the male lead like in novels.
A wave of horrible reality slaps me rigls on the face while hoping for a dream–like expectation. Nothing can stop this man from making me feel frustrated by just listening to him bubbling out what’s in his mind.
Jared. Oh, Jared. Can I smash your head this time! Just once, I’ll be content if you let me do it once.
“You must be looking forward to trying their specialty here, riglu? Let’s go Jared opens the door on his side.
No way. He’s still going?
“Wait.” I grab him by the arm. “Jared, let’s go somewhere else. I’m not even that hungry yet so it’s fine to go to some other place to eat” Just when I finished lying about not being hungry, my stomach growled in protest.
Oh, ground! Ext me up together with the humiliation this sinful stomach brought me..
“It’s okay, Daphne. If you’re that hungry, we can just dine inside.” He didn’t let me say anything more and left to open the door for me, “Give me your hand.
1 sigh, extending my hand to him. Jared smiles and holds tightly onto it
“Let’s get inside.”
“Welcome to Do’ciele. May I know your name so I can lead you the way to the table reserved for you?” A woman at the entrance greeted us. She’s wearing a pencil cut skirt and a matching blouse. Everyone else inside is wearing uniforms but hers is quite different
She must be the manager. Will she kick us out if she finds out we don’t have any reservation!
I look up at Jared who remains calm as if he has nothing to worry at the moment.
Gosh! I don’t know if I’ll get myself ready to be kicked out of here or to brace myself for this man’s another unpredictable response.
Ah. The woman seems to be panicking inside just like me. Her face lacks color while her lips quiver a little. Maybe I should answer instead? Jared doesn’t look like he has any plan to say something.
What’s with this man again this time?
Jared interrupts midway. “Jared Greenwelche. Is your boss around?”
Boss! I don’t want to lift my hopes up but does he know the owner of this restaurant by any chance I can’t think of any possibility why he’s suddenly looking for the boss other than maybe saying ‘Hi‘ and asking for an available table for us to use. Its not new to use one’s connection in situations like this,
“Boss? Are you perhaps talking about the owner of this place or the head manager?” The woman is doing great by keeping her composure and that sweet smile on her face despite Jared’s intimidating aura.
If I haven’t seen Jared’s on any occasion and he’s suddenly talking to me the way he did to this woman, there’s no way I won’t feel the pressure coming from his icy stare. Though, I know that he’s just being cautious since we’re in public. He’d proven to me many times how he acts differently when we’re alone together. I always thought he’s just a silly and blunt handsome man around me, and some cold blooded businessman anywhere
Nevertheless, it’s quite interesting to watch him show some of his many sides.
“I’m talking about Caleb
Caleb? Is he the owner of this place! I thought the Silvers own this restaurant. Is Caleb the first name of the heir of Silvers
Im pretty knowledgeable about tracking people in high society as a part of my secretarial job but I don’t remember anyone who goes by the name “Caleb and the way Jared addresses this person by his first name, it makes me wonder if they’re not just acquaintances but close friends too. Yeah, like how he’s actually friends with the Gold Corp’s President that they could get a drink in private after office hours.
Ah, Even me and Lucas are friends, though we’re not as close as Jared is with his boss.
“Ah. Mr. Silvers is in but he’s told us not to disturb him at the moment. The lady bows her head and continues to smile.
Too bad, I don’t think Jared will be satisfied with her response looking at how grim his face turned out to be.
But wait. it was said that Goldeneys and Silvers had tied the kng more than a couple of decades ago. It was when the heiress of Goldency married the heir of Silver, I can’t find more data about it since the information is tightly blocked. It’s just that their wedding created waves and was considered as the wedding of the century as it involves the two biggest families in the continent so it became well–known in their generation
Perhaps this Caleb guy is also related to the Gold Corp now that Jared seems to be familiar with him.
“Jared, maybe we should leave and find another place after all. Let’s go?” I stare at him with pleading eyes. We’ve been standing by the door for a while now and gradually receive attention from others who’re dining in
“it’s one, Daphne. Caleb invited me to visit himself. If this lady here tells him that I’ve come to visit per his request, he’ll be more than happy to welcome us,” Jared turns to the lady, narrowing his eyebrows. “I wonder why you can’t just do something to inform him about my presence instead. of keeping us here at the door,”

With his deep voice and cold tone, the lady flinches and awkwardly leads the way. “Please follow me. I’ll bring you to the VIP room on the second floor
Hah. My head hurts. I smile at the lady and nudge Jared to the side. “You don’t have to look so scary when asking for a favor, Jared. Come on, you’re making things hard for her,” I whispered.
I don’t want to take the lady’s side since she failed to relay Jared’s request to her boss. It’s basic to inform your superior whenever someone asks for them. Whether the boss is busy or currently dealing with something, when someone comes, it’s best to verify their business first before deciding to cut any possible contact. If it turns out to be a prank or something that the boss doesn’t want to handle, that only depends if he or she said so.
It reminds me of the time when I had to deal with all the requests to meet the CEO. Well, Lucas would either glare at me for bringing some faces he didn’t want to see or thank me for properly treating those people who’s beneficial for him. It’s one or the other and the boss has always the final say on anything.
“I’m trying my best to deal with her calmly. That Caleb guy didn’t even tell his employers about my visit after inviting me to come.” Jared pouts.
Uh. Did I see it wrong! He pouted!
“By the way, Jared. When did Caleb exactly invite you to come? I doubt he even informed Caleb that he’s corning today.
Jared tilted his head to the side, furrowing his brows. I don’t reinember the actual date but I’m sure it was three months ago.”
JAh. I see. Is that so!” I bite my lower lip to prevent any profanity from coming out.
But seriously. You should have at least given him a call beforehand, idiot!
