Joyful laughter echoed again as James and 1, part of the ceremonial procession, slowly passed by Emil.
He just stood there, frozen like a fool whose soul had been snatched away.

Our union ceremony, witnessed by the Moon Goddess, was absolutely perfect.
But Emil had been late to the ceremony.
Julia’s face was visibly unpleasant, but I guess the allure of becoming the mate of the future Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack was too enticing. She gritted her teeth and went through with the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the meager resources of Julia’s pack once again gave those gossipmongers plenty to talk about.
“No, seriously? Is her pack really that poor? She’s supposed to be joining with the future. Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, and that’s all they’ve got?”
“Isn’t her pack just a dependent little pack? I heard they’re barely scraping by themselves.”
“What is Emil even thinking? Giving up on the one and only daughter of the Silver Moon Pack’s Alpha for a woman like that?”
“Can a woman from such an insignificant pack really handle the duties of a Luna? Honestly,

“And didn’t Emil regret it? I heard he even tried to stop Sylvie and James’s ceremony this morning, caused quite a scene, like he’d gone mad!”
These comments grew louder and eventually reached Emil and Julia’s ears.
That night, Julia waited in the empty room, only to discover that Emil had gone off alone to drown his sorrows in another room surrounded by all the gifts I had returned to him.
Drunk, Emil roared, “I always thought Sylvie couldn’t live without me. I only intended to mark Julia first, curb her arrogance, and once she became more docile, I would naturally have her as my woman.”
“Who would’ve thought she wouldn’t wait for a single day! She actually ran off and bound herself to James, that damn James!”
“She always longed for me, isn’t that right?”
Julia finally couldn’t hold back her tears and cried out, “Emil! I am your mate! I am the one who just mated with you under the Moon

The next day, the word that Emil and Julia hadn’t spent the night together spread like wildfire across the territories of all the packs.
Of course, it eventually reached the ears of Alpha Rex and my Aunt Isabella.
James and I ran into Emil and Julia while joining them for breakfast.
After breakfast, Alpha Rex and my aunt stayed back with Julia.
Alpha Rex looked at Julia disapprovingly, his tone cold, “Even if Emil acts recklessly like a spoiled fool, as his mate, it’s your role to guide him, not to have explosive fights with him! Is

to lack both.”
“I opposed your mating from the beginning. This was Emil’s choice. Now look, you can’t handle the responsibilities of a Luna.”
“You behave like an ignorant Omega, throwing tantrums, getting jealous. How absurd!”
“Starting today, one of the most respected elders our pack, Elyra, will return to your home with you. She will teach and train you in the skills needed to be a Luna of a major pack.”
“If, after some time, you still fail to learn or regain Emil’s respect and commitment, your position as the future Luna might not hold.”
Julia nearly collapsed to the floor. “Alpha, I
understand.”
After we left, Julia turned to me, “You must be pretty pleased with yourself now, Sylvie. I’ve become Emil’s mate but lost his heart.”

I saw James waiting for me by the main entrance of the pack hall.
I turned to look at Julia. “Listen, Julia. I’ve never had that true mate attraction for Emil. I never intended to compete with you for him.”
“So, you’d better focus on becoming Emil’s true mate rather than wasting your energy on me.”
“Otherwise, you’ll only end up losing more than you already have.”
After that day, news of Julia became scarce within the Blood Moon Pack.
Though she became Emil’s mate, she also became a source of ridicule.
It wasn’t until the grand moon gathering that I saw Julia again.
