Chapter 30
I raised my foot to step into the rain, and the footsteps behind me grew louder.
A black umbrella suddenly appeared in front of
- me.
A pair of arms wrapped around me, pulling me
into his embrace.
“Alpha Peter, control your Faye.”
I turned my head to avoid his burning gaze, shouting at Lucas, “Lucas, drive.”
“Still so willful.”
Lucas’s chin brushed my hair, and there was
a trace of laughter in his voice. “If you get sick from the rain, you’ll be calling for me to take
care of you.”
“He’s flirting with you!” Tina suddenly shrieked. “That look, that tone–something’s not right!”
I instinctively took two steps back, but he caught my waist.
He gently shook the umbrella above us, his lips

His lacquer–like eyes locked onto mine, never blinking.
“If Coco steps one more step out, I can’t cover
you.”
“Or are you still like back then, thinking of running away?”
“Alpha Peter, why don’t you take care of your own household first?”
“My Coco, I’ll take care of her myself.”
How many years had it been since I’d heard
that nickname?
Once in the car, I turned my face away. “Back
then, I thought spending my life with someone as sickly and boring as you would be a never–ending ordeal.”
I dug my nails into the umbrella frame. “So, I threw myself into Peter’s arms, dressing myself in the most vulgar way.”
“And now? After being hurt by Peter, you
remember this ‘boring‘ person?”
Thastily averted my eyes “Stop being so full of

yourself. If I wasn’t afraid my dad would deal
with you for getting me sick, who would want you to meddle?”
“Is that so?”
“Coco, this spoiled temper of yours–who indulged you?”
I froze in place. The pale face of the boy from
my memories began to merge with the man in front of me.
The sketchbooks I tore up, the birthday cakes
hidden in the attic, and the punishments he took for me every time I got into trouble.
“So he’s Lucas!” Tina exclaimed. “The boy who
filled the attic with those sketchbooks?”
In the rearview mirror, Peter’s figure grew
smaller.
I stared at my white–knuckled fingers, my throat tightening. “Peter’s right about me being reckless. Winsor Pack had already planned my path.”
“Go to the North for training, come back and marry, be Luna.”

Lucas finished for me, the steering wheel
turning in his hands. “The Luna and Alpha treated me like their half–son, just waiting for
you to return.”
“But I ran away.” I smiled bitterly, my nails digging into an old scar on my palm. “For eight years, I thought none of you wanted me.”
“I didn’t let them find you.” He suddenly slammed the brakes, turning his head to look at me directly. “Coco, you had to hit a wall before
you’d realize who was truly sincere.”
I bit my lip, my eyes welling with heat. “So you just watched me get hurt by Peter…”
“If I didn’t watch, how would I know when you’d
turn around?”
“So you’ve always known!” Tina sighed suddenly. “All these years, he’s been waiting for you.”
He reached out and grasped my wrist, his thumb brushing over the scar Peter had left on me. “Now, do you still think I’m ‘sickly and boring‘?”
Chapter 30
I stared blankly at the familiar scenery passing by, my voice barely audible.
“Lucas, is this all I am, a failure?”
Lucas’s fingers tightened around the steering wheel, knuckles turning white.
He suddenly turned his head: “Coco, hasn’t anyone ever taught you?”
His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice lowered, “In front of a future Alpha, acting like a boyfriend is asking for trouble.”
He slammed on the brakes. As the seatbelt
tightened against my shoulder, he unbuckled
his own.
“What are you-” My question was swallowed by his embrace.
He pulled me into his lap, ripping off my rain–soaked canvas shoes. His fingertips
brushed my feet, and I couldn’t help but flinch.
“Eight years.”
He put a new pair of shoes on my feet. “Is this

how Peter takes care of you? Letting you be humiliated in the rain?”
“I said stop the car!” I straddled his lap, pulling
at his tie.
His body tensed instantly, and he tried to lean back instinctively, but I pressed him down by
the shoulder.
His shirt collar was slightly open, revealing a suspicious red mark on his collarbone, rising and falling with each breath.
“Hug me.” I leaned close to his ear.
Lucas’s hands, which hung by his sides, balled into fists before slowly loosening. “Don’t you hate me anymore?”
“I’ve never hated you.” I kissed his lips.
He froze for a moment, then in the next second,
he took control, gripping my wrist and pushing me against the steering wheel.
The alarm blared suddenly, mixing with our heavy breaths.
The phone vibrated. I frantically tried to

answer, but Peter’s voice exploded from the receiver: “Chloe! You left something at my
house.”
He paused. “I’ll send it to you in a couple of days.”
“Ignore him!” Tina shouted angrily. “Keep going! Let him hear this!”
Lucas bit my earlobe, deliberately intensifying his breath: “She’s busy.”
“Lucas! You dare-” Peter’s roar was cut off.
Lucas hung up the phone, throwing the phone
aside with a harsh motion. His eyes were red as
blood. “Coco, if you regret it now…”
“Shut up.” I kissed his bleeding lips.
The car’s sound system suddenly played a recording–our uncontrolled noises from
earlier.
Lucas grinned mischievously, his tongue
brushing my lips: “The evidence is in my hands. You can’t escape now.”
“Don’t escape! Stick with him!” Tina was

“Then don’t make me escape.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck, my nails digging deep into his back.
