Chapter 39
Chapter 39
When I woke up in the hospital room, my
treatment was complete.
Every part of my body ached, but the worst pain was in my heart.
The thought of never having Shadow by my side again hit me hard.
When I felt sad, it wouldn’t be there to cuddle
and cheer me up. When I was left behind, it wasn’t there to help me find my way out of the
darkness.
My heart felt as though it had died, the pain numb and unyielding.
*“Aria, don’t be so sad. Shadow wouldn’t want to see us like this,“* Selene said softly.
“But Selene, I really miss it.”
“I know, I miss it too. But right now, the most important thing is to make those who killed it
pay.”
Lying in bed, I cried endlessly.
The nurse who came to change my bandages
Chapter 39
looked at me hesitantly, as if she wanted to say something.
I could tell she wanted to tell me to cry less, worried I might strain my newly healed eyes.
But I’d always been a useless blind girl.
A blind girl who couldn’t even protect her own friends.
She silently finished changing my dressings and wheeled me out for some tests.
Trying to distract me, she started chatting.
“There’s a girl named Isabella in the next room. She’s such a drama queen–just sprained her ankle, and she’ll be fine with a few days rest, but her Alpha is so worried he insists on keeping her in the hospital for observation.”
*“What a petty woman!“* Selene scoffed.
I didn’t respond, feeling a heaviness in my chest.
“Speaking of which, I see your paperwork says. Luna. You’ve been hurt so badly, yet your Alpha hasn’t even come to check on you.”
Chapter 39
I laughed, tears streaming down my face.
He hadn’t come because all his concern and
affection were directed at another woman.
I never anticipated running into Alpha Marcus in the hallway.
He had his back to me, wrapped around
Isabella as if no one else mattered.
In the past, this would have crushed me, but now, I felt indifferent.
*“Look at this couple!“* Selene spat.
Isabella lifted her head from his shoulder and
locked eyes with me.
A wicked smile crept across her lips. As I
approached, she leaned in and kissed Alpha Marcus right on the lips.
She must have thought I couldn’t see, judging by the way she stared at me with a challenging look, intensifying her kiss with every passing
moment.
*“That shameless woman! She thinks we can’t
see!“* Selene seethed.
Chapter 39
I kept my expression stone–cold, unwilling to even glance at them again.
It was truly disgusting; I gritted my teeth, fighting the urge to vomit on the spot.
As I was about to pass them by, Isabella suddenly shoved Alpha Marcus away, feigning surprise as she called out to me.
“Aria, what a coincidence! You’re still here?”
I turned my head to look at them.
Alpha Marcus’s eyes flickered with a hint of panic before regaining his composure.
He probably remembered I was just a blind girl -anything he did would be invisible to me.
With a smug grin, he wrapped his arm around Isabella’s waist, pulling her close to his chest.
When he spoke, his tone was unnervingly
casual.
“Aria, what are you doing here?”
I let out a bitter laugh, looking straight at him.
Chapter 39
“Alpha Marcus, a cursed Luna by the Moon Goddess–you think I can safely come down the
mountain without getting hurt?”
He shrugged casually.
“Even though you can’t see, Shadow is with you. It’ll guide you down the mountain.”
*“That bastard! He’s the one who killed
Shadow!”* Selene roared with fury.
I had no interest in arguing with him; at this point, I found even speaking to him nauseating.
I tried to maneuver my wheelchair away but accidentally collided with Isabella.
She gasped in pain and flung herself into Alpha Marcus’s arms, crying out.
He hesitated, initially wanting to reach for my hand but instead shifted his focus to comforting Isabella, wrapping her in a gentle embrace.
I felt utterly pathetic and absurd—my Alpha cradling another woman, lost in their romance, while I spiraled in confusion, aimlessly wheeling around like a headless fly.
Chapter 39
The nurse, unable to watch any longer, grabbed my arm and gently redirected me.
Behind me, I heard Isabella’s pitiful wails.
“Alpha Marcus, she bumped into me so hard it
hurt.”
And my Alpha, the one I once protected with my life, glared at me with rage burning in his eyes and yelled:
“A blind girl shouldn’t be wandering around bumping into people, and when you do, at least have the decency to apologize! It’s no wonder you can’t see!”
His thoughtless words made me laugh in disbelief. I stopped the wheelchair without
turning back, my voice icy.
“Really? Should I apologize to her?”
“She’s the one who blatantly stole my Alpha. Why doesn’t she owe me an apology?”
“And because of her, I almost died on that
mountain. How do we settle that score?”
His beloved woman being criticized seemed to
Chapter 39
His beloved woman being criticized seemed to
infuriate Alpha Marcus.
Struggling to contain his anger, he spoke each word slowly.
“Aria, Isabella and I are innocent. How can you say that about her?”
“The situation was critical. I had to leave you behind.”
“You at least had Shadow with you, but Isabella only has me.”
*“Innocent? We just saw them kissing! What a liar!“* Selene sneered.
I merely chuckled softly, too tired to argue, and walked away.
