Chapter 41
I looked at him with a blank expression, cold
and unfeeling.
“Alpha Marcus, for the past few years, I’ve kept this matter locked away in my heart. The reason I never spoke up is that I didn’t want your kindness to stem from gratitude. I wanted pure love.”
“But ultimately, I was too naive, too self–righteous, and I overestimated your feelings for me.”
“I didn’t just end up in this messy situation; I also lost my Shadow because of you. Do you
have any idea how much I hate you right now? I wish it were you who was dead!”
“Bravo!” Selene chimed in, “That bastard
deserves to die!”
My icy tone pushed Alpha Marcus to the edge- he was almost frantic, clutching at his hair and looking to Isabella for help.
“Isabella, she’s just talking nonsense, right? You told me you saved me back then, you wouldn’t lie to me, would you?”
Chapter 41
In truth, the answer had been clear–he just stubbornly refused to acknowledge it.
Three years ago, not long after we came of age, we were all studying ancient magic in the same research institute. Back then, I was like a rat hiding in a corner, secretly watching them bask in their happiness.
If it weren’t for that accident, I might have never gotten close to Alpha Marcus.
That day, in his carelessness, Alpha Marcus ignited the forbidden magical materials in the lab. The explosion engulfed the whole institute in smoke, rendering my eyes unable to open.
In that fog, Alpha Marcus mistook me for someone else and grabbed my hand, pulling me toward the exit.
Just as we were about to escape, a beam crashed down. Without a second thought, I pushed him aside, taking the hit myself.
Before I lost consciousness, I saw Isabella scrambling into Alpha Marcus’s arms, crying and asking if he was hurt.
When I woke up again, I was in the hospital
Chapter 41
It was Alpha Marcus who remained by my side, comforting me as I teetered on the edge
of a breakdown. He said it was his fault and
felt guilty for what had happened; he even proposed that we become mates.
Before I was discharged, Isabella found me and
begged me to take the blame for everything.
She said since I was a blind woman and
wouldn’t be able to return to the research
institute, as a trade, she was willing to let me
have Alpha Marcus.
I agreed, left the research institute, and
accepted Alpha Marcus’s proposal.
I thought he was grateful to me, but after we
became mates, I realized he had no idea I was
the one who saved him.
In the years that followed, I tiptoed around him, trying not to be a burden, even turning a blind eye to his flirtation with Isabella.
I didn’t want to become his burden, so I worked
hard to be strong, but in the end, I couldn’t
even protect my beloved guide dog.
What I thought was understanding had turned
Chapter 41
I didn’t look at Alpha Marcus’s frantic
face; I kept my head down and let out a self–deprecating chuckle.
“You know, the research institute has crystal records. If you want to see, I have a backup here.”
I pulled out the recordings that I’d had copied after the incident and sent them to Alpha
Marcus.
Then I swiftly blocked all his contact information.
Alpha Marcus’s face went pale as he watched, and when he saw the last recording, he couldn’t help but cover his face and cry out in anguish.
For three years, under the guise of gratitude, he had shamelessly reveled in an affair, hurting me wantonly, only to finally realize how wrong he had been.
Alpha Marcus rushed toward me, grabbing my wheelchair, his face reflecting an unfamiliar mix of regret and despair.
His eyes were red, his voice trembling.
Chapter 41
“Aria, I’m so sorry. I thought—”
“It was my fault. Please give me a chance to make it up to you, I swear I’ll treat you better.”
“No.”
His desperate plea must have struck a nerve because he buried his face in my lap, crying as if his heart was being torn apart.
Looking at his tortured expression, I felt nothing but emptiness.
In the past few years, I had tried so hard to win
his love, but now it felt entirely worthless.
Late realization is worth less than dirt–this is a
truth even a three–year–old could understand, yet Alpha Marcus seemed oblivious.
“What’s the use of him crying now?” Selene remarked coldly. “Where was he all this time?”
I pushed him away in disdain, not bothering to hide my disgust.
“Can you not touch me? Because… you honestly make me feel sick.”
Chapter 41
I rolled my wheelchair into Alpha Marcus’s shoulder, causing him to wince in pain and
gasp.
Meanwhile, Isabella, who had been cowering in
the shadows, rushed forward to help him.
With tears welling in her eyes, she spoke up defensively, “Marcus, it’s fine if Aria won’t forgive you; you still have me. You said you’d dissolve your mate bond with her and marry
me.”
For the first time, I saw Alpha Marcus genuinely furious. He shoved Isabella away fiercely and shouted, “Shut up! I’ve trusted you blindly for too long, and I only have myself to blame! How dare you ask me to marry you?”
“Back then, it was you who wanted to break up! Why are you trying to wreck my marriage after getting dumped?”
“I was just playing around; do you really think I wanted to marry someone as fickle as you?”
Isabella stood there in shock, her eyes wide with disbelief at Alpha Marcus.
After a moment, her expression hardened,
Chapter 41
“I may have lied to you, but you said it yourself! You thought Aria was disgusting, a useless blind girl, and only I deserve you! And now you dare to say those things to me? Do you believe I won’t expose everything you’ve done over the years?”
“*What a couple of dogs fighting each other!*” Selene commented sarcastically.
I found it amusing and didn’t want to stick around for their petty skirmish.
As they fought, I quietly tried to leave.
But when I looked up, my gaze caught on
Isabella’s raised wrist.
My heart dropped as I gasped.
She was wearing a jade bracelet that had been my mother’s heirloom.
After losing my sight, I often tripped and feared
that I’d break the bracelet, so I had taken it off and locked it away.
I never imagined Alpha Marcus would be shameless enough to give my precious jewelry

That despicable woman. She’s wearing our mother’s heirloom!*” Selene seethed.
Fury clouded my judgment; I seized Isabella’s wrist with all my might, trying to reclaim the bracelet.
I pulled too hard; Isabella screamed in pain, her pale wrist quickly turning red and swollen.
Without thinking, Alpha Marcus pried my
fingers off her and stood protectively in front of Isabella.
He must have thought I was just jealous, that I was taking it out on Isabella.
Fuming, I raised my chin and spoke coldly, “Isabella, you have one minute to take off the bracelet and return it to me, or I will report this to the Elder Council.”
She bit her lip in frustration and glanced at Alpha Marcus.
Seeing him silent, she reluctantly removed the jade bracelet.
I reached out to grab it, but just as I did, a malicious smile crept across her lips as she

My heart raced; I lunged to catch it.
But all I could do was watch it crash to the
ground, shattering into countless pieces.
“No!” Selene cried out in agony, “Our mother’s
heirloom!”
I fell to my knees, sobbing as I gathered the
broken shards.
In that moment, my heart shattered too.
They had killed my Shadow, and now they had destroyed my mother’s gift to me.
I couldn’t forgive them, and I would never let
them off the hook for this.
When I finally looked up again, all that remained in my eyes was hate.
“We will take our revenge!” Selene shouted furiously, “They will pay for this!”
“Yes, Selene. We will.”
