My son immediately opened his tiny arms and rushed over, “Daddy.”
Mason stiffened, mumbling in disbelief, “Your mate? Alpha Robert of the Nightfall Pack?”
It was as if he’d heard the world’s biggest joke.
He chuckled derisively.
“Wendy, have you lost it? How could the
Nightfall Pack even consider making a poor
Omega like you their Luna?”
Robert’s icy gaze swept over, and Mason
nodded in greeting, “Alpha Robert, this is my ex–girlfriend who went a bit off the rails after we broke up. I apologize for her-”
Before Mason could finish, Robert strode forward and pulled me into a tight embrace.
My mud–stained body instantly sullied his beige suit, my filthy hands–having rummaged through the trash–left marks upon his chest. Yet, he didn’t seem to mind, instead tightening
his grip.

Sophia stood dumbfounded, her hold on the pup loosening.
Robert directed his Beta to take Elias away.
My son glanced back at me longingly from
the Beta’s shoulder, but under Robert’s stern warning gaze, he resignedly laid his head down.
“Bad Daddy.”
Mason’s outstretched hand froze midair, his face pale, “Alpha Robert… Is she really your mate?!”
Robert shot him a cold glare, “Do you think there’s a problem?”
Mason staggered back, his eyes red with fury, glaring at me, “Wendy! I’ve been searching for you for five years, and you had the nerve to: establish a mate bond with someone else?!”
“Was it all because of those $1.43? I just wanted to be sure you weren’t after my money! If you’d accepted it, I would’ve proposed right away!”
“But what did you do? Simply replied with a breakup and vanished without a trace!”

I could no longer bear his accusations, “Must we keep digging up the past like this? I may be poor, but I never sought money from your
pack.”
“Do you truly not understand why we broke up all those years ago?”
“When Sophia messaged me saying you were quite happy after our breakup, and now you blame me for disappearing?”
Mason’s expression shifted dramatically, “What message? When was I ever happy? To find you, I didn’t eat or drink for three days…”
“Stop pretending,” I interrupted him bluntly, “On the third day after our breakup, you proposed to Sophia, didn’t think I’d find out?”
He paused for a moment, then barked out a laugh, “I was trying to draw you out! You fool, couldn’t even see that?”
Announcing an engagement with his First Love just to force me out into the open?
I laughed bitterly and shook my head, “Enough. It’s all in the past. I have a mate now, and you’re about to get married; let’s leave it

Pain flickered in Mason’s eyes, his smile was
bitter, “Wendy… I can’t let go.”
“Alpha Mason,” Robert’s frigid voice interjected suddenly, “Coveting another’s mate is a very
bad habit.”
And with that, he pulled me into his arms once more, right in front of Mason, and squeezed my
waist with unmistakable intention.
“We’ll settle this tonight.”
I shrank a little at the thought.
Great. Judging by his demeanor, tonight’s going to be another round of “punishment” for me.
It’s all Mason’s fault for bringing up all these old grievances in front of Robert.
Robert gently swept my disheveled hair
from my forehead, helplessness coloring his indulgent expression:
“Elias wanted shells; let the Beta pick them up for him. How did you manage to make such a mess of yourself in such a short time?”

He suddenly lifted his gaze to sweep over the crowd, his voice turning chill,
“Or is it that the Nightfall Pack has fallen so far that anyone can casually insult their Luna?”
