Chapter 11
Based on the location, the police surrounded the warehouse where Ingrid was hiding. When they rushed in, she was still busy counting the zeros in her account.
However, she reacted fast, grabbing Andy as a hostage and forcing everyone to back off.
Just as she was about to reach the door, a bullet hit her calf, and the police closed in on her.
Andy was rushed to the hospital. He had two ribs broken and also bruises everywhere. Moreover, his right index finger had missed the best window for saving.
“Dad, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have trusted her, and I shouldn’t have hurt
Mom because of her.”
Tears kept streaming down his face, regret weighing heavy on him.
He finally saw Ingrid’s true face but at the cost of a finger and wounds all over his body.
Three months later, Reginald showed up at the prison with a lawyer. Ingrid looked like she had aged ten years, her whole presence gloomy.
“Sign it.”
He placed the divorce papers in front of her. Ingrid looked up, locked eyes with him, and let out a hoarse laugh.
“You’re still dreaming that Lisbeth will forgive you?”
Reginald stayed silent, and just handed her the pen.

“Reginald, you’re disgusting. You lied to Lisbeth for five years, slept with me who knows how many times, and now you’re trying to act all devoted? You’re already filthy.”
Reginald suddenly stood up, his jaw clenched as he glared at her.
“You didn’t know, did you? I was the one who caused your car accident and gave you amnesia.”
That hit him like a brick.
“I knew I was Ken’s illegitimate daughter all along.
“You know how unfair that felt? Lisbeth was born with everything, while I had to hide like a stain. So I decided to steal you, make her feel what it’s
like to lose.
“I thought it’d be hard to reel you in, but turns out you were easy. A few nights in bed, and you were all in, couldn’t let me go.”
She toyed with her hair, smirking up at him.
He lunged forward and grabbed her by the neck.
The guards pulled him off and dragged her away.
As she was being led out, she turned her head for one last look.
“You’re destined to end up alone in this life.”
That line turned into a curse Reginald could never forget. Night after night, he would wake up from his dreams, covering his face and crying.
He searched high and low for my grave but came up empty.
Left with no other choice, he knelt at the Montgomery family’s doorstep, begging Beatrice to at least tell him where he could go to pay his respects.

From then on, Reginald lived like a ghost. Soon after, he was diagnosed with depression.
He was popping pills with no real effect, and the weight just kept falling off him.
He tried to end it more than once but was saved every time. In the end, he lived on for Andy’s sake, barely hanging on.
Ten years passed.
In a remote desert lab, cheers erupted like a wave–scientists hugging, some even crying tears of joy.
“The mission’s nearly complete. We just need to get the target out safely, and we’re finally going home.”
