Reginald froze for a second, then scoffed.
“Is this some kind of joke? How could she be dead? Did your hospital mess up?”
When he saw the sympathy in the young nurse’s eyes, it felt like something was choking him and he could not breathe.
“I want to see her. Right now. Immediately!”
Startled by the redness in his eyes, the nurse quickly handed him a form. “If you don’t believe me, you can go to the crematorium and see for yourself.”
“How much did she pay you to Purchase completed nough! Tell Lisbeth if she doesn’t want to come back, then don’t bother coming back at all!”
Ingrid came up behind him at some point and wrapped her arms around him.
“What’s going on, Reginald?”
“The hospital said Lisbeth died and was cremated. Isn’t that the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard?”
His mocking tone tried to cover up the trace of panic inside. On the other hand, Ingrid’s eyes were filled with resentment, but her voice stayed soft.
“Maybe she’s upset because you saved me, and this is just her getting your attention.”
Reginald looked at her, visibly unsure.

“Really?”
“Really. I didn’t hit her that hard. How could she be dead?
“Don’t worry, Reginald. She’s not a Montgomery anymore. Where else could she possibly go if not back to you?”
Her words calmed the storm in Reginald’s heart.
Yeah, she loved him so much. How could she just leave like that?
Reginald suddenly remembered their sophomore year, when a virus outbreak had quarantined the whole school.

The stadium had been packed with infected patients, and he was one of
them.
He truly thought he would not make it out alive, until I snuck in, risking everything just to be with him.
“Even if I die, I’ll die with you.”
Those firm words, along with my warm tears, went straight to his heart.
Back then, Reginald promised himself he would stay with me forever.
But now…
He remembered the look in my eyes as I lay in a pool of blood, and his chest suddenly tightened. A wave of panic swept over him, and he shoved Ingrid aside.
“If you’re not feeling well, go rest. I’ll head back first.”
Ingrid reached out, trying to hold onto the corner of his shirt, but caught nothing.
Reginald sped home, overtaking cars along the way, only to find the

house quiet with just the servants around.
He hurried upstairs to my room, but everything of mine was gone.
His heart started to race.
“Where are Lisbeth’s things? What happened to all of them?”
The servants exchanged looks, silent, until one finally stepped forward and said nervously, “I think I saw Madam burning something two days ago. When I helped clean up, it looked like a photo.”
“Two days ago?”

Reginald’s eyes widened. He rushed to find the photo album and when he opened it, it was completely empty.
His hands trembled, his face drained of color.
I took every photo in that album and I guarded them so closely, never letting anyone touch them.
And yet, I had burned them myself.
