Chapter 7
Reginald could not wrap his head around what he had done to make me so heartless–to go as far as burning all our memories.
Then something hit him. He went to check our marriage certificate and saw that I had torn it in half.
Sure enough, one corner of the certificate was creased from being pinched too hard.
It all made sense now. I must have found out the marriage certificate was fake, so that was why I burned the photos and left.
Still, he thought that as long as he coaxed me, I would come back.
Reginald thought back to our past. No matter how mad I was, I always gave in when he sweet–talked me or gave me a little gift.
He pulled out his phone and called his secretary.
“Buy all the latest gemstone necklaces from L and have them sent to the house. Make sure they’re wrapped nicely.”
“Should I send them to Ms. Maxwell?”
He paused. After all this time, he realized that even though we were married, he had barely ever gifted me anything. Meanwhile, Ingrid was showered in presents.
“No. Send them to Lisbeth.”
After hanging up, a wave of guilt washed over him.
Five years of marriage, and our relationship had faded. On the surface,

everyone thought we were inseparable, but deep down, he knew that most of his energy and affection had gone to Ingrid.
“Tonight, I’ll make it up to her.”
Reginald told his secretary to take Andy to his grandfather’s house, then sent me a message.
“Don’t be mad. I’ve prepared a surprise for you tonight. Come home soon.”
Yet, the second he hit send, a red exclamation mark popped up. His face went pale.
I had blocked him. Even then, Reginald thought I was just throwing a fit out of jealousy.
And I would definitely be back by tonight.
Back then, after one of our fights, I stormed off and stayed out for the night. When I came back the next day, Reginald had a raging fever. He was so sick it nearly turned into pneumonia.
From that moment on, no matter how bad our arguments got, I never stayed out overnight again.
Yet, this time was different. Reginald waited the entire night, and I still did not show up.
He eventually fell asleep curled up on the sofa, feeling an ache in his chest he could not quite explain.
When he woke up, he felt a warm breath against his ear and a fuzzy head resting in the crook of his neck.
For a moment, his heart soared. He was sure I would come back.
“Lisbeth, I know you can’t leave me!”

However, the body next to him stiffened. A woman raised her head and looked at him, clearly annoyed.
“Look again. Who do you think I am?”
When he saw Ingrid’s face, he instantly shoved her away. The warmth in his chest vanished, replaced by irritation as he glanced around.
“Why are you here? Where’s Lisbeth?”
Ingrid pressed her lips into a thin line and gave him a cold look.
“Why are you always chasing after her? What’s so special about her? I can do everything she can! You and I are the ones who are legally married!”
She yanked at his collar and forced a kiss on him. Meanwhile, one of her hands reached to undress him.
Reginald did not expect this side of her. Ingrid had always been gentle, the type to go along with whatever he wanted–even in bed.
