I froze mid–motion while feeding Coal. “What?”
Emma clung to my arm, pouting as she pleaded, “Come on, Yuna, don’t be so stubborn! Anyone with eyes can see you both like
each other! Just check on him, will you?”
My face flushed red. “Don’t talk nonsense!”
If I set aside the unpleasant parts of our past, Edward was, without a doubt, an amazing person.
And I…
I liked him.
Yes, I liked him. Maybe he liked me too.
But I couldn’t get past that hurdle in my heart.
I could still remember that younger version of myself, crying into her pillow until her eyes were swollen, overwhelmed with
sadness.
If he’d liked me all along, even back then, then what had all those tears and the bitterness I’d carried for years even been for?
Emma wasn’t in the mood to argue. She was growing visibly anxious. “Fine, let’s take this one step at a time. Even if you don’t like him, at the very least, you’re his friend, right? Edward’s not in a good condition right now!”
“Wait…” Something felt off, and I frowned as I looked at her seriously. “What’s going on?”
Emma froze, looking startled. “You don’t know?”
Her expression was a mix of disbelief and pity as she said, “Edward’s mother passed away!”
“His mother?”
Edward was abandoned by his parents at a young age and raised by his grandparents. When did his mother suddenly show up?
My body reacted before my brain could catch up. I immediately called Edward, but the call didn’t go through.
Emma hesitated for a moment before gritting her teeth. “Yuna, I think I know where he is. Let me take you there!”
Without hesitation, I grabbed my keys and we rushed out. Driving at breakneck speed, I managed to send a quick message to Liam, letting him know I had an emergency and would handle the leave request later.
The location Emma directed me to wasn’t close; it was on the outskirts of a small town, near a field.
It wasn’t until I arrived and saw the nearby graves that I realized we were at a cemetery.
Wait–was the burial already over?

And why was it a burial? Isn’t that unusual?
By now, the sky was dimming, and after circling the area a few times, Emma and I finally spotted a disheveled figure in the
distance.
“Edward!”
I called out to him.
He turned his head slowly, staring at me from a distance. His expression was unreadable.
“What’s going on with you?” I frowned, parking the car and trudging toward him through the uneven ground.
As I got closer, I noticed he was still wearing the same suit from two days ago. It was wrinkled and covered in dirt, clearly
untouched since.
In his hand was a half–empty bottle of high–proof liquor, and scattered around him were various other bottles–some beer, some
spirits.
It wasn’t until I was right in front of him that I noticed the two gravestones standing before him.
Those were…
I glanced at the inscriptions, and my eyes widened in shock.
