As I stepped out, I saw the intern waiting obediently nearby, her face still pale.
I brought her with me, and together, we reported everything to the police.
After everything was finally dealt with, Emma informed me that Edward was awake.
When I arrived, he was sipping soup slowly, his pale complexion accentuated by the softness of his hair falling across his forehead. He looked far from the usual composed professional. Instead, he resembled a freshly graduated college student, his demeanor unexpectedly gentle.
The moment I walked in, I snatched the bowl and spoon from his hands, rolling my eyes. “Are you trying to kill yourself? Pushing yourself this far? If you’re feeling awful, why didn’t you call me to keep you company?”
Edward looked like he wanted to laugh, but the attempt quickly dissolved into a fit of coughing.

I filled him in on everything that had happened earlier, finishing with, “I’m planning to resign.”
“What?” Edward froze, caught completely off guard. “Why?”

I fed him a spoonful of soup and replied, “I’ve been with this company since I graduated. It’s been six years now. The work
pressure is too much, and I want to take a break for a while.”
He swallowed the soup, his brows furrowing slightly. “Have you thought it through?”
I nodded firmly.
“If that’s what you’ve decided after careful consideration, I’ll support you. But make sure you have a plan for what’s next.”
After a brief pause, he added, “You haven’t lined up another job yet, have you?”
“Nope.”
“Then…” He smiled faintly. “On behalf of Sincere Holdings, I’d like to extend a heartfelt invitation for you to join our company.”
Seeing the confusion on my face, he let out a wry chuckle. “It’s my mom’s company. Now that she’s gone, I have to take over.”
As if worried I might reject the offer outright, he quickly added, “You can join after you’ve had your fill of rest and fun.”
I glanced at him and replied, “We’ll see.”
That was my go–to phrase back in high school. Edward and I exchanged a glance and couldn’t help but laugh.
Without wasting time, I submitted my resignation letter, officially leaving the company a month later.
Edward, still in his probationary period, resigned soon after as well.
As for Liam, after the intern reported him to the police, he was quickly taken into custody. During the investigation, the company
unearthed even more incriminating evidence based on the files I’d provided. With the weight of multiple charges stacked against
him, it was hard to say if he’d ever see freedom again.
But I no longer cared.
Because at that moment, I was on a plane bound for an overseas adventure.
Just before takeoff, I turned off my phone, but not before receiving a message from Edward.
“Coal and I will be waiting for you to come back.”
I replied, “Okay.”
As the plane ascended and leveled out, I pulled up the window shade. Outside, the pale blue sky and white clouds stretched endlessly, with sunlight weaving through them in a breathtaking display.
“No matter what happens next,” I thought to myself. “I’ll enjoy this moment first.”
