Chapter 14
Why?
Vincent didn’t really think it through, he just blurted it out in a moment of impulse.
In order to convince his conservative parents to agree to this matter, he had to find a very good, very good reason.
He lowered his eyes, recalling every little detall of being with Sophie.
He thought their first meeting was at a bar outside of school, but in fact, they had crossed paths countless times four years ago.
He thought she was attracted to him at first sight, but her love for him had already taken root and blossomed, dense like a tree.
He thought they would eventually separate, but after six years of twists and turns, he had already gotten used to having her by his side
In the heavy snow, she carefully reached out and held his hand; at graduation, she tiptoed and embraced his warm hug, living together, daily greetings of “good morning” and “good night” were exchanged constantly..
Scenes kept flashing one after another, finally freezing on her 25th birthday, the moment she made a wish
She said she hoped to get married successfully this year.
Until now, Vincent still didn’t know whether she was telling the truth or lying.
If it’s true, then let’s get married.
If Sophie was by his side for the rest of his life, he would willingly and without regret
If it’s a lie, then let’s turn it into the truth.
Anyway, he had already decided on her, in this lifetime, he would never think of marrying another person again.
So he did not hesitate anymore and poured out all those words from the bottom of his heart to Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood.
“Dad, Mom, my girlfriend’s name is Sophie. She was my classmate in high school, but I didn’t really remember her name until sophomore year. Before that, I had no idea that there was such a classmate around me, and I didn’t know that she had a crush on me for many years. The first time we met, I approached her just because I lost a game and was punished to find her, asking her to be my girlfriend. Unexpectedly, she agreed, and we became a couple by accident.”
“After we got together, I found that she was always able to perceive the areas where I was negligent and gently take care of them for me. At that time, thought she was just more attentive, and I never realized that it was a habit she had developed over years of secret admiration. I selfishly enjoyed her kindness towards me, without giving anything in return, and even putting all my thoughts on someone else, yet she never blamed me for it.”
“L, like her, have deeply loved someone in the past, but now I have let go while she still persists. I look at her, as if I see my former self. There will never be another person in the world who understands me as deeply as she does, nor will there be another person who makes me feel this heartache. That’s why I want to make up for all the happiness I owe her and also give myself a chance to start over.
In the end, Vincent’s voice carried a sense of relief and a smile.
Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood rerbained silent.
They were all experienced people and knew that although their son was willful and reckless, this time he was seriously injured and they didn’t want to rub
salt in his wounds.
Two people looked at each other, and both saw the pain and helplessness in each other’s eyes, but they didn’t know what to say.
Vincent knew their concerns, and he bent down, knocking his head three times heavily.
“Let me be willful one more time, Dad, Mom. I promise, this will be the last time.”
Looking at the long wounds on his face and his right hand wrapped in bandages, Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood sighed deeply.
In the end, compromised.
“Bring it back and show it to us.”
