Chapter 9

Suppressing the fury rising in my heart, my voice turned ice–cold as I said, “If you truly want to make amends, then live well with Vivian and stop bothering me. That’s what’s best

for both of us sisters.”

Sebastian’s eyes dimmed, his voice carrying a trace of unwillingness. “But I always feel like you’re the one who should be my wife.”

My patience finally ran out, and I issued a direct dismissal, “Sebastian, you need to leave. These aren’t words you should be saying, and this isn’t a place you should be coming to.”

He rose dejectedly and left my room with heavy steps. Watching his retreating figure, I did not feel even the slightest ripple in my heart.

In both lives, he had always wavered between two women, greedily wanting to possess everything.

I began to think that since Sebastian and Vivian were already living here, there was no need

for me to stay. The Holts‘ place had never truly been my home anyway.

The next morning, I packed my luggage and knocked on Penelope’s door. I pressed a bank card into her hands, saying calmly, “Penelope, thank you for taking care of me all these

years. The money on this card is what I’ve saved over the years–consider it repayment for

raising me.”

ope froze for a moment, trying to refuse. “Rachel, this won’t do…”

Take it.” I picked up my luggage and said flatly, “I have matters to handle at school. I’m leaving now.”

With that, I left the house without looking back, feeling no attachment whatsoever.

There was a long line at the ticket window. When I finally reached the front, there were no

tickets to Southport available. The earliest ticket would not be until the day after tomorrow.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. Where could I go now? I could not sleep on

the streets.

Just when I was at my wit’s end, Gabriel appeared before me carrying bags and packages.

“Rachel!”

His face lit up with a delighted smile as he hurried over. I was a little surprised and greeted him with a smile, “Gabriel! What a coincidence. You’re from Mountain City too?”

“Yes! What’s this? Do you have nowhere to go?”

Gabriel’s tone was full of concern. “Why don’t you spend Christmas Eve at my house?”
