Her palm turned cold and clammy, betraying the surge of emotion beneath her calm expression.
Mrs. Lancaster caught the flicker of hesitation in her face and cautiously asked, “Charlotte, could you help us bring Julian home? We’re a bit busy. We need your help…”
The idea of Charlotte becoming her daughter–in–law had lingered in her heart for
She couldn’t believe the bond between those two could be severed so easily.
What if…?
What if seeing Charlotte made Julian remember her?
What if it made him resent that other woman?
There had to be hope, some room for change.
years.
As she entertained that thought, she looked up and saw the same hope mirrored on Mr. Lancaster’s
face.
Clearly, he was thinking the same thing.
“Yes,” he chimed in at the perfect moment. “We just signed a major partnership deal. I am truly busy right now.” His voice was filled with helplessness.
Of course Charlotte understood what the two of them were hoping for.
But seeing the sincerity in their eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
Even though she knew better than anyone else, Julian wouldn’t waver for her.
Their hopes had been doomed from the start.
She followed their wishes and went to the Coral Reef Aquarium, where Bianca Sterling worked.
There, in the break room, she saw Julian quietly sitting alone.
He wore a plain hoodie and jeans, a baseball cap pulled low over his head, and a mask hiding most of his sharp, handsome features, as if terrified someone might recognize him.

distant demeanor.

Charlotte’s gaze lingered on the thermos for a moment. That was when Julian suddenly looked up, his eyes sharp with wariness.

Her tone remained calm and reassuring. “It’s okay. I’m not here to hurt you.”
But the moment she finished, something seemed to trigger in Julian.
His brows furrowed, and his voice turned cold and dismissive.
“I’m not going back with you. Just give it up. I want nothing to do with the Lancaster family’s
so–called high society. Nothing is more important to me than Bianca.”
Charlotte had never heard Julian speak to her like that.
He’d always been gentle with her. Always indulgent.
She stood frozen for a moment, stunned.
The tension in the air tightened like a noose, until Julian’s eyes suddenly shifted.
He bolted to his feet and strode forward, sweeping Bianca up into his arms just as she emerged
from the water.
With incredible tenderness, he used his sleeve to wipe droplets from her cheek, then handed her
the thermos.
Bianca took a sip of warm water, beaming as she pulled down his mask and kissed him on the cheek.
Julian’s eyes darkened, just as he leaned in to kiss her back, but Bianca quickly yanked his mask back up.
“I don’t want him to recognize you,” she said with a playful pout, clearly enjoying her mischief.
Watching the scene unfold, Charlotte’s mind flashed back to the day Julian disappeared.
It had just been a minor car accident.
The doctors said he only needed two days of observation before being discharged.
But he vanished from his hospital room.
The last footage caught on the security cameras showed a thin woman wheeling him out on a
