Chapter 12
I had thought that Jayden and I had severed all ties for good.
But the day before my vacation ended, Jayden’s sister found me.
Sarah’s face was pale with panic, but the moment she saw me, her eyes lit up, as if she had found a savior.
Through her frantic explanation, I learned that Jayden had “lost his mind.”
He refused to accept that we had broken up, and, despite everyone advising him otherwise, he spent a fortune organizing a wedding for me–for us.
Yesterday was supposed to be our wedding

day.
As you can guess, I never showed up.
According to Sarah, Jayden waited at the venue for a full day, insisting that I would come. It wasn’t until the hotel staff asked him to leave that he finally refused, claiming I would still show up.
In the end, he got into an altercation with the hotel workers, was beaten black and blue, and left abandoned on the street.
Listening to Sarah’s tearful recount, I could only feel a sense of absurdity.
I asked, genuinely baffled, “After being beaten like that, surely he’s come to his senses. So why are you here?”
A flicker of embarrassment crossed Sarah’s

face. She grabbed my hand, pleading, “Lyn, please… Lyn, I beg you, save my brother.”
“He… he’s going to jump.”
“He says he’s sorry for what he did to you and your mom, and that only by dying will you ever forgive him.”
Seeing my hesitation, Sarah’s eyes welled with tears. “Lyn, he’s my only brother. I’m begging you, I’m really begging you!”
“He’s done so many wrongs, but… but his sin isn’t worth dying for!”
Her genuine concern for Jayden struck a chord in my heart.
I sighed, resigned. “Lead the way.”
Jayden stood on the edge of the rooftop

He had lost so much weight, looking as though a gust of wind could send him plummeting. The sight made everyone’s heart race with fear.
When he saw me, his eyes brightened.
Jayden gazed at my face with an almost reverent look, his expression soft. “You came, Lyn.”
I followed the officer’s advice, trying to calm him down. “Jayden, I’m here. Please step down. Let’s talk. We can figure this out.”
But my words seemed to fall on deaf ears. He continued speaking to himself, his voice low and distant. “I knew it. You can’t let go of me. You still love me.”
He lowered his head, murmuring, “You’re just

angry with me. Angry because I didn’t go with you to see your mom one last time.”
“I know what will make you forgive me.”
A gentle smile crept across his face. “I’II jump from here, and make it right. Will that make you happy?”
He was truly out of his mind!
My heart pounded in fear, but I dared not provoke him. I spoke carefully, “The wind up here is too strong. I can’t hear you well. Come over here, and we can talk slowly. Please.”
It seemed my words had some effect, as Jayden’s expression softened slightly. But just then, Amara suddenly appeared.
Her face twisted with anger as she shouted

at him, “You’re insane, Jayden!”
“You don’t love Lena!”
“Don’t you remember? Being with her was just a mission I gave you!”
“It was all fake, all of it!”
“How could you abandon me for Lena!”
For a moment, it felt as though I had been struck by lightning. I stood there, frozen, staring at Amara.
“Mission? What do you mean?”
My voice trembled. “Did you both deceive me?”
“Ah-”

Jayden screamed, his knuckles white as he gripped the railing, veins bulging in his hands.
He glared at Amara with a look of pure hatred, his eyes wide with fury. “Stop talking!”
“I did like you!”
“But the woman I truly loved, the one I’ve loved with all my heart, is Lena!”
“I only want Lena in this life. No one else!”
He turned to face me, his expression resolute, and in that moment, he released his grip, falling backward.
“Lyn, I love you-”
My mind went blank, a deafening ringing in

my ears as I stood rooted to the spot.
Amara collapsed to the ground, crying uncontrollably, and lunged at me, beating at me in her distress.
Through her broken sobs, the truth finally reached me.
