About a month later, my sister went to the island again.
This time when she came back, she didn’t show her face, saying she was tired from playing and was sick.
Due to my mom’s enthusiastic promotion, relatives began to wonder if the island had bad feng shui.
Some nosy relatives even started saying, could it be that she was being punished for stealing my destiny?
I just smiled. If that were the case, the punishment had been a long time coming.
My aunt called to say Emma wanted to see me, but I was busy with a project, so I didn’t go.
When I finally found time to visit, I was “kidnapped” by my sister who had finished recuperating.
Yes, kidnapped.
She imitated Jack’s tone and texted my mom, saying he still preferred me and wanted to rekindle our relationship. My mom then gave her my new address and even volunteered all the passwords I had used before.
So I was taken to a car by my sister and two burly men while still in my pajamas.
She looked even more haggard than the last time I saw her. There were deep bags under her big eyes, and if you looked closely, you could see the fine lines around her eyes that were hard to conceal.
She asked me the same question again, “Did you know all along?”
I gave her the same answer, “What do I know?”
She laughed self–mockingly, “I thought I was the winner, but I didn’t expect to be set up by you midway. You knew what kind of person Jack was all along, yet you dared to date him for half a year, just to lure me in?”
“Lily, you really went to great lengths. If you had dated for just a few days like before and let me know, I wouldn’t have been so competitive. But you deliberately had a secret relationship for so long, almost to the point of marriage before letting me know. I got anxious and fell into your
trap.”
“You calculated every step, didn’t you? You even factored in that your mom would brag in the group chat about you finding a good partner. Lily, do you hate me that much?”
Looking at the situation in front of me, I knew I couldn’t get out of the car for now. Angering Emma wouldn’t be wise.
