My ex-husband’s Ch 23

My ex-husband's Ch 23

He ignored Fulbert completely.

They had known each other for years, and he knew Fulbert was never the meddling type.

Whatever Sandria might have told him earlier, Fulbert wouldn’t interfere, not after seeing his current attitude.

But he was wrong. Before he could grab Sandria’s arm, Fulbert stood in front of her, shielding her completely with his towering frame.

Fulbert’s features were as exquisite as ever, yet the iciness in his expression was equally undisguised.

“Tino, Sandria and you are divorced already. This isn’t appropriate.”

Instantly, the scene fell deadly silent.

A trace of surprise flashed across Florentino’s face.

He wanted to laugh.

“Bert, I don’t know why you’ve been playing along with her, but, at the end of the day, this is between me and her. I hope you stay out of it.

“If she offends you somehow, I apologize to you on her behalf. I hope you don’t hold it against her.”

He thought Fulbert would move aside after hearing this.

To his surprise, Fulbert pulled Sandria into his embrace.

Smiling at him, Fulbert said, “What if I insist on meddling?”

Florentino was stunned. With frownhe stared at them, who looked so intimate.

A hint of disbelief flickered in his eyes

Sandria was a bit startled by Fulbert’s sudden movement. But soonshe adjusted her expression.

Fulbert was such a great partner, playing along with her so quickly and seamlessly.

Leaning against his arms, she looked up and blinked at Florentino.

Then she said, her voice affectedly delicate, “Mr. Burnham, I’ve told you I’m Bert’s girlfriend now. How come you just wouldn’t believe me? We’re going home to get some rest now. Do you mind stepping out of our way?”

Standing on tiptoe to peck Fulbert’s cheek, she said with a smile, “Darling, let’s go home.”

Fulbert didn’t seem displeased at all. Instead, he arched an eyebrow,

“Alright,” he said, nodding.

They displayed their affection in Florentino’s face before turning to leave.

Gawking at their retreating figures, Florentino froze in place, his entire body stiffening.

How could this be?

No way. What exactly had Sandria pulled?

How could she manage to get Fulbert to play along with her so cooperatively?

All of a sudden, a trace of panic flickered in his heart.

He couldn’t help but feel that something was slipping out of his control.

After a few seconds, he finally snapped out of it and hurried out to catch up with them.

But they had already gotten into Fulbert’s car, and he could only stand in place, watching as it vanished into the dis-

tance.

When he could no longer see it, he pursed his lips and went back into his car.

He decided to coax Sandria back later. After all, they had been together for eight years. If not for Courtney, he would- n’t have considered leaving her at all.

As Fulbert started the car, Sandria let go of his hand and leaned against the seat.

“Mr. Ortega, I gotta say–great acting. Thanks.”

“That’s it?” He glanced at her with a half–smile.

She turned to look at him and said impatiently, “Partnership goes both ways. When something similar happens to you next time, I’ll do the same for you.

“It’s a risky job, OK? I might be in danger. You know how crazy people these days are, desperate women especially. Besides, I kissed you. If anything, I’m the one at a loss.”

Fulbert’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly when he thought of the peck.

He couldn’t help but chuckle.

“I don’t mind kissing you back, if that makes it up to you.”

She pulled out a fake smile. “Yeah, right.”

He was so shameless sometimes.

Soon, they arrived at the neighborhood.

Chapter 23

They went upstairs together, and he saw her to the door gentlemanly.

“If your wrist hurts tonight, you can knock on my door at any time.”
