VIOLET
+8 Pearls
I couldn’t be less excited. I was resuming work this morning at Mason’s company. Of course, it was my first day, and I was as nervous as the word itself.
A nervous flutter filled my stomach as I surveyed my limited wardrobe options. No matter how hard I tried to find an outfit that screamed professional, I came up short. With only a few pieces from my former pack, I couldn’t help but feel anxious about my first day at Mason’s company.
A shopping spree was certainly on the agenda, but I couldn’t afford it just yet. My plan to leave the pack was top secret, and I didn’t want to draw any attention to myself by splurging on a new wardrobe.
Resigned, I grabbed the clothes that seemed the most business–like, even if they weren’t perfect. I hoped my enthusiasm and hard work would make up for my less–than–stellar outfit.
Present at Mason’s company, I kinda found my way out with the description I was provided, and here I was standing just a few meters away from him. “You arrive quite early,” Mason’s voice cut through the air.
“It’s my first day, and I’m supposed to make a first impression.” He chuckled at my light joke.
He was dressed in a black suit with a knotted tie, his hair curled backward. Aside from those loose shirts he always wore, this was the first time I had seen him this official. It was like he was showing a different side of himself, one that was serious and important.
He turned to Hans, who was sitting across the table, his gaze fixed on a file, which I supposed he was sorting.
“Hans, please fix her in the spot of the secretary. She will be the new appointed secretary, and have Maya put her through on what to do,” he stated plainly and then returned to his chair.
I took a light bow and trailed behind Hans. Mason’s company wasn’t that bad compared to Adrian’s. He dealt more in textiles while Adrian was more versatile. Well, those were my efforts I had contributed to the Wolfe Empire. But then what did I get in return? A divorce? Hard work, they say, pays, but mine was paid with a divorce.
“Maya, Violet is new, and she’s the appointed secretary, so do well to show her things and explain to her,” Hans stated and then pointed to her position.
Immediately Hans left, “Hi, I’m Violet Harrison,” I introduced myself, realization dawning on me that this was the first time in years I had used my father’s name instead of Wolfe.
“What do you think this place is? A charity organization?” Maya snickered. A smirk plastered on her face as she stared at me with disdain.
“What?” I asked, awestruck. I hadn’t done anything wrong, so why the comment?
“Yes, your dress alone is enough to show that you’re nothing… You don’t belong here. And I wonder why Mason hired you.” I thought it was only Rhoda who was rude in this pack since everyone else had been amazing so far. But this lady had just proven me wrong.
“Maya, you were asked to show her what to do, not tell her how to dress. She’s a full–grown adult. And if I were you, I’d tread with caution knowing fully well that she has ground with Alpha Mason. Have you seen how he looked at her?” A guy from the other end of the desk spoke. There were just the two of them, and me, making three.
Maya rolled her eyes at me. “Oh! Cut the crap. We all know Rhoda is going to be our future Luna, and this desperate bitch is doing all she can to snatch Mason,” her eyes fired at me like I had stolen something important from her.
I get it now. “Maya, as much as I want the best for Mason, I don’t care if Rhoda becomes the future Luna or not. I won’t have you sit there and call me names. I have nothing against their union. And I’m just a mere employee like you,” I explained to her, flipping my hair that was covering my face to the back.
“You heard her. Let her be,” the guy butted in again. “You’re welcome, Violet. I’m Xavier Woods,” he introduced himself, flashing a smile at me.

“How well is she settling?” Mason’s question took me off guard as I closed the door behind me.

“Well, not too bad. Just having a bad moment with Maya. You know she can be very difficult sometimes,” I explained, narrating the incident that I had just heard happening.
“What was it about?” Mason I knew wasn’t the type to be bothered about trivial matters like this, mostly when it’s involving a lady. He doesn’t even give a damn about Rhoda.
“Y’know, it’s just this ladies‘ stuff…” I really couldn’t explain about her wardrobe issues.
“Spill, Hans!” he yelled, his eyes green now.
I took two steps backward. I knew Mason to be short–tempered, but not with things like this. “Okay, it’s just about her dressing to work,” I stuttered.
“Then get her more. Get her more.” If startled was the right word to use now, then I was. Mason was never the type to care. What was Violet doing to Alpha Mason? Vicious, yes. Cruel, yes. Hard–hearted, yes. But never the type to care.
“I really don’t know much about female clothing. I don’t know her size, and it would be rather insulting to meet her and take her shopping.”
“Then go with someone who knows,” Mason stated dismissively.
I nodded and then took a light bow, with a female in my mind. Rhoda.
Placing a call through to Rhoda, she picked up on the first ring.
“Hans?” her voice boomed from the other end.
I inhaled deeply. “I need your help, Rhoda,” I stated.
“And what’s that?”
“I need to get clothes for a female and…” I had barely completed the statement when she cut me off.
“A female? Don’t tell me you’ve got a girlfriend already. Is she your mate? Or a one–night stand?”
I gulped, trying as much as possible not to have those unholy images planted in my head right now.
“That isn’t important now. I’m waiting for you,” I dropped the call and then texted her the address as I drove down there.
A few minutes later, I didn’t know how on earth she got there before me, but there she was standing at the entrance.
“Don’t tell me you ran?” I shook my head. Rhoda and I hadn’t been on talking terms because of the position she believes she holds.
“It’s a free world, Hans. So, tell me about this lady.” Choosing her was just a wrong idea, or maybe not.
“Let’s pick the right dresses first, and then I’ll tell you.” Knowing her temper, I have to play along.
“What’s her size?”
“She’s just the same size as you are, but a little curvier,” I explained.
After the third row of picking clothes, she said that would do, and I paid, and then led them to the car.
‘So, tell me, who is she?” Can’t believe she was still this curious.
“You sound so curious….” I hinted, knowing she wouldn’t drop it, but that was the plan.
“We made a deal, remember?”
